Hello have a octavia 02 reg 2.0 8v changed the plugs on cylinder 1+4 then tried it to make sure everything was ok and is now running like a piece of dirt and engine light is now on took plugs out and chaged them back to origional and still the same.

thanks in advance.

Coilpacks I would say if it's doing it with original plugs too. Did you gap the new plugs right as incorrect gaps can blow coilpacks. Also coilpacks are very fragile and if dropped can break easily.

Why didn't you change the plugs as a set anyway?

Ian

Coil packs maybe???

Have a search as they have been discussed at great length over the years.

had just done the first 2 and checked before doing the others

would it be the coil packs if it is like a knocking noise

Had my plugs changed by a roadside mechanic and he bought a spare set of coil packs/leads with him just in case. He said they are very fragile and can be damaged when changing plugs. He obviously knew his job.

changed the leads still the same, checked ine if the plugs i have taken out and it has one of the prongs on the tip has snapped off.

anyone got ant ideas.

could the head be damaged if they plugs did not go in right?

You say the electrode has snapped off, is that on the new plugs?

I think that could cause a coilpack to blow. I would get a new coilpack or 2 as I really think thats where the problem lies.

As for damaging the head I don't reckon so. Did you grease the threads on the plugs? Are you using a torque wrench to tightem them ? 20ft lbs is the correct pressure of the top of my head. This is important as from experience it's very easy to under tighten them and not get a good seal.

Generally if the plug isn't sitting right and doesn't seal it will pop the coilpack up due to pressure escaping past the plug under compression.

ok here goes:

16684 relates to the next 2 codes and is probably coilpacks

16685 cylinder 1 misfire

16688 cylinder 4 misfire

Last code looks like a faulty sensor. I believe it's the one in the intake manifold just after the throttle body.

Reading on about 16684,85 and 88 it could be more complicated :(

16684/P0300/000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Possible Causes

  • Air Intake System leaking
  • Fuel Supply faulty
  • Injector(s) faulty
  • Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty
  • Ignition Coil(s) faulty
  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open
  • Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check Misfire Recognition
  • Check Air Intake System
  • Check Fuel Supply
  • Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing
  • Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s)
  • Check Ignition Coil(s)
  • Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18)
  • Check Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

Special Notes

  • This DTC indicates that one or multiple cylinders are misfiring, but the ECU fails to identify the cylinder.

16685/P0301/000769 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Possible Causes

  • Ignition system
  • Fuel injectors
  • Fuel pressure
  • Running out of fuel
  • EVAP canister purge valve
  • Evaporative emission system
  • Low compression
  • Base engine problems
  • Controle Module damaged

Special Notes

  • This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression.

16688/P0304/000772 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected

Possible Causes

  • Ignition system
  • Fuel injectors
  • Fuel pressure
  • Running out of fuel

I would swap coils 1 and 4 to cylinder 2 and 3 and see if the misfire moves with them, if it does then at least it saves running through all the possibilities on that list.
