'Slide a boot' CV joint boot kits

Featured Replies

Whilst browsing eBay (as you do!) i came across the Slide a Boot replacement CV joint gators!

Has anyone experienced these before? I have always done it the 'correct' way of removing the CV joint, but i can see the appeal of these (if the boot is a decent quality!)

There is even a short video showing you how the kit works.

Looks quite handy. Certainly takes out the headache of getting a cv joint apart. I imagine it might not be quite so easy doing the boot in situ as you'd need to get it pulled back far enough to go right over the cone and if space is tight, that could be tricky. Worth a try though.

Never used one of those, but I can testify that the glue-together ones are awful.

Ive also used the glued together ones and they are horrendous and need to be perfect or they open right back up, I gave up ad ended up putting a original sleeve one on.

And me. The glued ones are very stiff, hard to fit, and next to impossible to glue.

i tried one of those and it was rubbish, it's quicker just to whip the cv joint off

These are still a pain. I would prefer to remove the joint (Usually only takes 5 mins) then mess round with that. Try doing it on a cold day wit the shaft still in the box

The sticky boots.....I would rather eat yellow snow.

:)It's a good idea for some French cars where the outer joint is made as part of the shaft...not removeable. On those cars you would normally need to remove the shaft, take off the inner joint and fit the gaiter that way. Saves a lot of work and gearbox oil.

Can't quite see the point on cars where the outer joint can be removed though.
