intermittent wipers and alarm sounding

Featured Replies

I've just got back from my hols to find my intermittent wipers not working and the alarm occasionally going off (bloody noisey it is too!)

everything else works on the stalk just fine, all wiper speeds etc

Windy mentioned to me about slamming the bonnet shut to see if that helps which i then did, no intermittent wipers and 30 secs later the alarm went off so i did it again and they then worked albeit for only a few tries.

it all leads me to believe that theres a dodgy plunger or similar in the engine bay but can i heckers like find the little blighter, any ideas where this thing hides??

if the bloody thing goes off at 3am i'll be like Basil Faulty belting the living you know what out of it so please help :)

it does seem like the 2 faults are connected and hopefully easy to fix

also this car has no ECU mods or anything

btw its a 2004 VRs

Hi Mad Monk, i have had the same prob although i have now found my cause (internal sensor)

the intermittent wipers leads to a faulty bonnet sensor, its the two wires running to the sensor right by the bonnet catch on the slam pannel

p.s if it keeps going off just pull your fuses out for the horn, what i did

It's a microswitch buried in the bottom of the bonnet latch mechanism. Try hosing it out with wd40 and flicking the switch a few times.

cheers guys, not the obvious place i looked for it lol but found it now

contacted Telfords (my local Skoda place) and they say if i need a new one then i'll need the whole bonnet mechanism, not just the switch so hopefully i can clean it out

once again thanks for the input :)
