Which Columbus?

Featured Replies

I am currently window shopping for a upgrade from my Nexus to the fabulous Columbus but are slightly confused regarding the different models. Are there different versions of the Columbus for the various Skoda's? I'm looking for one for my Octy 05 Elegance. Also apart from all the upgraded goodies, can it display parking sensors as the good old Stream?

to display the parking sensors I believe you'd have to upgrade your can gateway. I've got the RCD510/Bolero and front and rear parking sensors but no display

the only difference with the Columbus is the earlier ones do not support the MDI/Media In interface but i think that can now even be sorted with a firmware upgrade. the VW version is known as the RNS510, the only difference being you get a VW start up screen and illumination for the buttons is different. other than that they are the same unit

The Bolero (or VW RCD510) is the Columbus minus the satnav, dvd and 30gb harddisk. Instead you have a 6 CD mp3 changer built in and your not limited to 2gb SD cards like you are with the columbus

Thanks for your reply dan. So a possible can gateway upgrade as well. From what I've searched it seems like there is a Superb and a Octy version?

no problem, (thats what the thanks button is for)

KUFATEC GmbH have a look on there, try the golf mk5 section aswell

Care to explain a further? I've got rear parking sensors and Columbus, both factory fitted but no display - just beeps

Columbus in the Superb shows a graphic of the car interior which you can drag your finger around to set up fade & balance, in the Octavia you just get two sliders.

I think for parking sensors to display you also need to change the parking sensor controller.

Would any version of the Skoda branded Columbus (superb, octy, old or new) "plug and play" with my Octy 05 apart from small issues with parking sensors, graphics vs no graphics and MDI interface? Could I expect all other features to work?

Do you have steering controls?, if you do then avoid the ones with the part number that starts 3T0 as that one is designed for the superb and the controls will not work. Otherwise the official octavia one is 1Z0 035 680A is the correct one for the octavia, I have one in my 2005 elegance.

This should be sorted with the latest firmware when its released and will give the 1Z0 A unit the car interior fade/balance.

yep will fit no problem, might need an adapter for the aerial or if you can get the bits, you unclip the plastic fittings and replace the new ones. you should be able to fit MDI if you get the lead version rather than the CD replacement, just did it in my passat, its not exactly plug and play but if you read the instructions word for word you cant go wrong,

I think for parking sensors to display you also need to change the parking sensor controller.
I guess that's what this says also -

BTW: Any idea what "KL 58 d" is, and why it's not communicating?

I'm not sure to be honest.

KL is the CAN databus between the Dash Panel Insert and the Diagnostic Interface.

Terminal 58 refers to lighting.

Make from that what you will.

Hi I've purchased a Columbus/RNS510 (3T0 035 680) and going to fit in an Octavia II (2008). Does this mean I will lose my steering wheel controls? What else will I lose, like the maxidot display?

I dont know about the maxidot display, but the steering controls will most likely not work. The superb uses a different method of communicating with them, You maybe lucky as you have a recent car though.

Seems hard to get the 1Z0 035 680A. Most of the units out there are the 3T0 ones or VW

There are many Superb and VW versions out there, only a few Octy ones. What did you guys pay for your unit? Seems to me that the Octy version is around 1000-1300€
