Rear Speakers

Featured Replies

Just recently got my skoda and first thing I did was go out and buy a new Pioneer headunit.. unfortunately not having any rear speakers slightly annoyed me.

I prefer the more "surround" feel of having rear speakers when driving. Due to my Fabia not having door slots I am left with either 6x9's or 7x10's or something similar.

I have read all about the argument that upgrading the front will be better than anything you could put in the back - bar a sub. Unfortunately I don't have the money for a sub yet still yearn for more bass!

My plan -

1. Infinity 6522i for the front, maintaining the original tweeters if possible.

2. Pioneer (or equivalent) 6x9's mounted on rear parcel shelf with home made stealthing. These would run off the HU rear channels with the aim of instating an amp at some point in the future.

I know rear speakers arent to everyones tastes but I prefer them and 6x9's are the way to go as a compromise on quality and bass.

Opinions anyone?

The 6x9's will obviously give you extra sound, and as your looking at upgrading the fronts they shouldn't be over powering. You'll get more base due to the larger cone area of the 6x9's so your system will have a wider frequency range.

I recon it will sound good - better than your current set-up obviously.

I still think that the sound with be too heavy from the rear, as the front speakers are too low and the tweeters are not high enough.

Why not get a 2 channel amp to run a sub and use the headunit to power the fronts?

At the end of the day it's how you like the system to sound.

I have just purchased a new parcel shelf for mine, when it was bought it had Sony 6x9 xplod in the back. Bass was great, unfortunatly I am at the age where this now gives me a headache. And having a parcel shelf that looks like I have two small cyclist stuck thru didn't appeal. I have been speaking to the local ICE shop and they had suggested that I a "stealth shelf" put in, mdf, speakers mounted underneath, acoustic cloth over the top. Means you can have the 6x9's without advertising the fact. I decided not to go with the option as the OEM speakers where still installed, and gave just enough to fill in the back.
