folding mirrors

Featured Replies

anyone else notived that when the mirrors fold they end up in differnet places. look at the car from the front or back with the mirrors folded and its not symmetrical. The passenger mirror is much closer to the side window than the drivers mirror is. Look closely and you will see that when they are in their normal driving positions there are differences too - passenger mirror is set at a steeper angle. how odd. not had this with other cars before - they are usually symmetrical

:D nope hadn't noticed.

are you saying they fold wen you turn the ignition off ?? how do you do this. I have to press the locking button on the keyfob to get them to fold. there i no auto fold on UK spec cars as far as I m aware ?

Same as that. Would rather the auto-fold when the key comes out though. Is there a way?

This is a intresting link, it seems that there are a lot of things that are not in the owners manual.

Yes if you look at the exterior mirror control on the drivers door their are 5 different positions if you turn the knob too the bottam left symbol which is the wing mirrors and remove the ignition key the mirrors will fold in and when you turn the ignition back on they will unfold.

Pete

I'm going out now to try that.

I actually think it is common with all cars and to do with the fact that as the driver you do not sit in a central position. Therefore to have the same rear view angle from the drivers seat the mirrors have to be different angles to compensate for the off-centre viewing position - the driver's mirror will be closer to a 90 degree angle while the angle on the passanger side needs to be more acute. Not that I'm a maths geek you understand :)

nope. dont agree. my other car is symmetrical. other cars I ahve had in the past are. other cars with folding mirrors are symmetrical when they are folded. the superb looks silly with the mirrors in different positions when they are folded. Especially as the drivers one sticks out more - the one you wanted to be folded in more away from the traffic.

I forgot to add that you have to have the ignition on to set it up. It works everytime for me.

Tried that, but still no luck.

Does this mean the SE has somthing the Elegance does not:) what is you full spec of your car fofos?

After reading 130bhp posts today i went out today to the car to make sure i got it right but i didn't.

So to clear it up, when your getting out of the car you turn the knob to the mirror symbol and the mirrors will fold in. When you get into the car you turn the knob to any of the other symbols and the mirrors fold out. You don't need the ignition on to do this. My apoliges for any confusion.

Pete

thank god for that I was beginning to think I had a fault. No auto fold on my se
