On the subject of alarms...

Featured Replies

I have an Octy II vRS on an 07 plate with factory fit alarm/immob.Question - is my alarm working properly, or should I get it looked at? The symptoms are these... The alarm sets by the key fob (obviously). I know it works for two reasons - when I first got the car I tried to open the boot without disarming the alarm, and when I did so the alarm went off. My fault, but glad it worked. Secondly, when stopping for petrol a few weeks back I locked the car remotely as I walked to the kiosk to pay - force of habit. My brother in law was sitting in the car, and his movements set off the alarm. So I know the motion sensors work... BUT - messing with the car recently, I locked it and then tried to open all four doors. All four were locked, but none of them triggered the alarm. Is this normal? I find it odd that pressing the boot release catch makes the alarm go off, but trying to open the doors doesn't!!Should I be getting this checked, or are they all like this?SW

On my Dads XC90 the doors dont set off the alarm. I'm not sure if its the same with Skodas but I assume it probably is.

Someone trying to open the handle isnt really a threat but someone smashing the window is.. and the motion of the smashing would be picked up.

Are you double pressing the fob when you lock?

The boot shouldnt set it off when using the boot release button.

1 button locks and alarms the car

2 button presses locks car and knocks off the alarm.

Trying the doors when locked and armed won't set off the alarm. Smashing a window will though. Set the alarm with a window open and it will go off no problem. It is only expected to monitor the boot, bonnet and doors for opening and interior movement from a smash and grab.

As for it going off when opening the boot, it shouldn't. When I press and hold the middle fob button I get the alarm pip and the boot pops open. When I close it the boot locks and alarm pips again. Do the boot lights work when opened? could be a dodgy boot switch.

Think you're misunderstanding me. With the alarm set, an attempt to open the boot using the electronic catch (under the badge on the tailgate) sets the alarm off. I'm not talking about using the button on the key to open the boot.

I just thought it odd that a passer-by trying the boot would set the alarm off, but not the same passer by trying the door handle...?

Then you have an issue with your boot sensors.
