Powerflex dogbone bushes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does anyone run the powerflex dog bone bushes? I know there are problems with the wishbone bushes but are the dog bone ones ok?

The best price i can find for the superpro ones are around £39 delivered. The powerflex ones i can get for £20 delivered so quite a difference.

I have had one fitted for around 18 months with no problem. At first you will get a little extra vibration, mainly around 1200-1600rpm after a around 300 miles this disappeared. You have to give it very slightly more revs moving off but the car feels so much better.

The powerflex bush would be one of the 1st things i would change if i was starting down the modding line again.

Give me some money and you can have my complete mount as i have got a full set of 'Density' uprated mounts to fit which consists of both engine mounts and dogbone mount.

Hopefully these should be a big improvement over the standard ones.

Martin, I've had the powerflex dog bone fitted for about 2years now & It is still ok:D

It made a big difference for a small cheap mod:thumbup:

I too have had the powerflex dog bone mount my only gripe was the extra noise and the extra vibration but then mine was fitted to a TDI so I would imagine it would be fine in the petrol, incidently I did about 15k with the powerflex mount and it put up with the extra stresses of the TDI lump extremly well.

Go for it.

I think she may notice when you start the car up. You may need some Shout spray for your seats

:rofl::rofl::rofl: nice one

I still think it's the best mod for the money, the gear change is better, the wheel hop is eliminated. The initial vibration is the only negative but you only notice it on idle and a couple of weeks of driving settles it down nicely. I liked it so much as soon as it settled I put the superpro front bush in to get maximum benefit.

I never have a problem with wheel hop really it sticks to the road well since i changed the wishbone bushes, i only get wheel spin. I was hoping for the improvement on gear change as mine feels a little notchy and slow to change. I have changed the oil but no difference.

So fingers crossed.

No, it's hard. The superpro (who's bushes are nicer than powerflex for the wishbones as well, having used multiple sets of both) do a diesel dogbone which is nice. There is no movement that I can tell, the mount is TIGHT, but it doesn't vibrate like the others.

I'd highly recommend it. But only the diesel one.

Greg.

@greg, do you have this tdi dogbone Buy VAG - Lower Engine Support Bracket Bushes - TDi by PRI Racing Ltd. buy online fitted in your petrol Octy then? I eyed this up previously but assumed it wouldn't fit my vrs... I have to endure so much start/stop in town that I'd quickly tire of any increased vibration over std and so have resisted the petrol offerings, but I like the sound of improved feel with no payoff in terms of interior comfort.

I fit them on diesels, but my experience with them is they are so tight compared to standard, I do not see the point in increasing vibration by using the petrol one or race one (the mounts/gearboxes are the same petrol/diesel generally). To drive, the thing feels SOLID. I have heard the powerflex standard one is too solid too and causes a lot of vibration. In fact, there is virtually no movement possible with these mounts I think the difference is the diesel specific superpro one is a bit softer shore or maybe slightly more voided too, in order to allow vibration to be damped a bit more. Still no slack!

I have to agree, don't use the powerflex dog bone mount on a tdi, it can feel like you are constantly driving over cats eyes the vibration can be that bad under load not to mention all the extra noise in the cabin. I know, I had one fitted to my tdi for alot of miles approx 15k ( i think)

I can't say how they feel on a petrol as I never fitted one to my vrs.

The superpro one is perfect for the tdi and I only installed the Buy VAG - Lower Engine Support Bracket Bushes - TDi by PRI Racing Ltd. buy online

i've got the powerflex one fitted to my vrs, feels absolutely lovely now its bedded in, was a bit more vibe and noise for the first couple of hundred miles but it seems to have settled in nicely.

One thing to remember is to not over tighten the centre bolt (one that holds bushes onto dogbone) or it will vibrate something chronic, i did mine up fairly tight and it shook me to bits, had to take it off again and back it off a bit. now got mine so its just starting to nip the bushes together, then a little bit if you know what i mean.

Im going to fit mine tomorrow regarding the bush bolt tightness for the powerflex, is there a torque setting that is good with little vibrations. Another forum fitting guide tried 12ftlb but said he would change to 10ftlb due to vibration.

i couldn't find any reference to torque settings, its literally barely tight, just a bit more than finger tight. i just done mine up until you could see the bush just start to compress and left it there. its been in a bout 400 mile now and feels lovely, will have it out in the next week or so and check the tightness of it as i'm sure it could probably do with nipping up a bit now its bedded in.

Surely without a locking nut that runs the risk of working completely loose and falling out

I don't know if there is a specific torque setting, but you can't over tighten as there is a end stop to stop the bush being compressed too much. I did my powerflex mount up as tight as it would go which appeared to stop at the end of the threaded section of the bolt.

Ahh right and do you get much rattle Mark?

Obviously i would prefer to get this put on right the first time rather than having to go back and adjust.

I fitted it the same way as bowders. I really wouldn't feel comfortable partially tightening it.

Do you get a lot of vibrations with it fully tightened ian? I thought i could maybe use thread lock if i didnt tighten it fully.

I did initially but they settle down over 500-1000 miles. The original bush is fully tightened so I felt it best to fit it the same way. The 2 piece bush on it's own isn't too bad anyway and it was only when I added the superpro front solid bush that I really had doubts as to what I had done but even then it was only on tick over.

Correct. The bolt is not self locking and should be tightened securely. It reaches a dead stop.

I think it is particuarly bad if running with a loose/slack bolt is the method used to overcome the problems associated with a bush that is too hard by leaving it effectively slack to allow movement.

A much better solution is to use a bush which isn't too hard and make sure it's tightened up properly on the mounting.

I did get the normal vibrations until bedded in then all was fine. Even with the nut done up tight I could still twist the poly bush slighly, mind you this probably was the supplied grease helping to do this.

I added loctite thread lock to the bolt as I did not want any chance of it coming loose. If I was you I would do it up all the way.

mine had a nyloc on, maybe suggesting that someones had it out before?? gonna have it off again and nip it right up though after reading rest of threads
