project car, engine transplants, worth doing?

Featured Replies

hey all, the fab is going next month and ill be getting a car for work but want a car for the weekend, not wanting to spend a great deal which is why i have this idea, tell me what you think, pros cons etc etc

firstly i know its been done thousands of times but....... getting an old corsa and putting a 2 litre in it, not modding it in looks, making a real sleeper. old corsas can be picked up for about 7-800 quid now? engine cant be a great deal more. am i abit blind and not looking into this properly or is it a good cheap thrill?

don't think it's an uncommon swap and a fairly pokey engine in not much car is always going to be a giggle

mate down the road had a nova saloon with a 2L in it (and bigger brakes) - was pretty quick and the standard suspension made for comedy weight transfer front to back when he floored it. he also had a gsi with a LET in it - meant to be a bit scary

I don't know I'd fancy a Corsa, simply because it will need obvious changes to wheels, tyres and suspension to handle the extra power, but the "big engine sleeper looks" idea has always worked for.

Ah, the infamous Corsa Red-Top... aka "Squirrel Chaser"

Also a suprising ammount of Corsas are now very rotten.
