What is your experience of trying to trade in a Skoda

Featured Replies

We all know that the quality of Skoda took a leap forward in 1995 onwards but I have found that when it comes time to trade your car in, very few dealers really want to touch a Skoda. Now I thought at first that perhaps dealers of one make always offer poor trade in value for cars of other makes, but not so, when i traded in my wifes elderly Feista, I got a very fair sum for it indeed, were as every time I have tried to trade my Skoda's (newer, better condition) I have been offered such ludicrously low amounts as to make it clear the dealer really did not want to take the Skoda as part exchange.

So I guess I just wondered if any of you have had this type of experience. Are Skoda car still treated as **** by the motor trade despite the improvements of the last decade?

Fiestas and other small cars are easier to trade, as they're easier for the dealer to shift.

Most dealers I've been to tend to work to book price anyway if you're trading in a car they wouldn't use as stock...

I would have been happy to take book price, but I have found that I was offered anything form 10-50% Galss guide value for my Skoda except by a Skoda dealer, where as the Feista got slightly more than the book price.

I think even if the car is a good one, it still wears the Skoda badge and is still perceived in the "eurgh - it's a Skoda!" category by the customer. At the end of the day, customer demand will set prices, which works in our favour when buying :) I suspect trade in at a Skoda dealer will be favourable though ;)

I've been quoted

45K miles in around 18 months is high, I do 20k a year, and my last 2 skodas had high miles. 3 1/2 yrs old 72 K & just over 2 yrs old 42 K, & got book price each time from a Skoda dealer against my next skoda.

Maybe because WE know how good the cars are, our expectations of the trade in price is higher. But the badge snobbery is still to be overcome.

A good question. I got a very good trade-in on my hatch but then I was buying another Skoda. Maybe Huck or someone else who's recently traded the Skoda in for another model might be able to give a more definitive answer.
