Oil changes and servicing?

Featured Replies

Having failed to find any sort of service repair manual for my Octavia 2 TDI (Haynes say they have no intention of publishing one in the near future:thumbdwn:), does anyone know how you find out when to change the oil and roughly when I should expect my servicing light to come on?

If its on fixed every 10k or 1 year from its last service.

If its on variable follow the procedure in the hand book and it will flash up on the display.

Is there any litterature out there about this sort of stuff for the Octy2? Or do we just have to rely on computers to tell us everything?

What is the age and mileage on the car?

What do you mean?

Its a 2004 Octavia Mk2 and has done 44k. I bought it at 38k, so done about 6k in it now and wondering how soon I should think about an oil change? My service interval computer thing reads 12k to go until next service! but that sounds like a terribly long time to me! even with fancy modern engines and fancy modern oil.

Being as there is no Haynes or similar available, is there anything else out there to guide you on these things?

So do it on fixed servicing and change the oil in 4k.

If it's on variable servicing then it could last anything up to 18/19k before the service reminder comes up. It is vital, however, that oil complying with VW507.00 spec is used, otherwise revert to fixed interval servicing.

If you have any doubts about variable service intervals I can only quote from my own experience and that of Dave (of DSB Autocare - my local independent VAG specialist), who has a Superb V6 2.5 TDI (his own) with 253k miles on the clock and is on variable servicing. He says there are no probs whatsoever with this .... and I agree!
