fabia 1.4 no power steering at all help please

Featured Replies

please help i have had a fabia 1.4 classic for the last 3 years, but for the last 6 months the car did not move at i work abroad, when i came home i tried to start it but the battery was dead, so off i went to kwik fit and bought a new battery once fitted it started in a couple of turns, the power steering light stayed on ( the light had never given me any problems) and the steering is very very heavy, i have driven the car for twenty miles like this to see if it would fix itself but no joy.. i have checked the fuses but all ok can anyone point me in the right direction to fixing this

Do a Search, for this problem ,there is a TON of information on the forums ,if you look.Nearly as much as water ingress into the car from deffective door seals, and still people are asking for help for these two problems!

is there all the ones i read have some power steering , so my problems different as i have just put a new battery in and wonder if it something to do with the size of battery,

What size battery did you buy? If its not that then maybe the Pump, Sensor, Alternator or Alternator sense wire...

You just need to eliminate the possibles!

On the Fabia the steering angle sensor is a common failure point in the power steering.

I think the OP thinks that he has a different root cause for his problem as, car was okay when last used > left unused for 6 months > now battery too low to start car > replaces battery > now power steering is u/s. Trying to flame him might just have driven him away from this "friendly" forum!

Rum4Mo and others

If you put 'Steering Problems' in the search box you will see just how many times this problem has appeared, and is still appearing!

If you read them you will realise that the Power Steering ,its ancillaries , and the Battery are related in this problem.

I maintain that 6 months without charging will damage the battery .To sum up ,change battery for a new one. Fault still there, either Steering Pump ,or Steering Sensor ,or both are likely to at fault. All this information obtained by reading the posts, which have already been posted!
