Paradise Wildlife Park (loadza pics)

Featured Replies

I took the 70-200 f2.8 for another workout. Took tons of pics of various animals including some birds in flight. I have to say I now have a new found respect for the guys that produce stunning images of birds doing their thing in the air. Jee-wiz it's tough:eek: I didn't get one useable image:( I'll post one for a laugh though:D

An Owl, silent and glorious in it's flight:rofl:

Wasn't easy to get the Tigers, I had to shoot through the two inch squares in the fence which do show up in the picture :-(

Here's one -

Thanks Rob.

I could have stayed there all day photographing them. Feeding time was a bit gruesome though:D

Great pics as usual Chris. Very sharp and excellent colours.

Hi Chris

I hope you do not mind my following observations, as you seem to be taking this lark seriously, they are intended to help.

Why did you use manual white balance?

Your excellent shots have been spoiled by a nasty colour cast on them all.

Are you using a calibrated monitor for PP work?

If you shot these in RAW, they can probably be corrected without too much effort.

As I say, all comments meant to help improve your work.

Here is the flapping duck which I have done a quick colour correction on...

I made a big mistake which I only noticed at the end of the day. The camera was actually set on WB/Flash mode. I had been taking a couple of shots indoors with a flash before I left:O:mad: Also noticed when I got home that the in camera sharpening was set to 6/10:O I wanted to try shooting a bit softer following your advice from my last thread. I must get in the habbit of doing a full reset before new shoots.

No calibrated monitor, just the humble laptop. My studio is very spartan:rofl:

Shooting in raw is something i've been wanting to do but I don't have the software to open raw files at the mo.

Love the comments/advice. Keep it coming:thumbup:

Edit. I didn't see the Flapping Duck edit at the bottom of the page. Huge improvement, what software did you use for that?

I used Photoshop CS4 for that, but almost all of my RAW editing is done in Lightroom. You can download free trials and give them a try. Your supplied Nikon software should also give you RAW editing.

It is worth the effort to shoot in RAW, it will not sharpen your images in camera, you do that later to suit the subject. You will also gain extra exposure latitude which will open up the colour and depth of your shots.

Keep it up.

Superb pics mate. Is this the place just up the A10 from Waltham Cross? We're taking our little lad there in a couple of weeks. It looks like fun, and deffo have to be ice-cream afterwards too :D

IIRC the Nikon software was only a 30 day trial and it's not cheap. Thought I'd be better off putting the dough towards PS.

I will download one of the free trials and have a play:thumbup:

Thanks jig. It's a great place to take the kids. I started taking my Daughter there many years ago and I now take my Grandson. Prices have gone up a bit since my first visit:D Then again its a fair bit bigger now with more to see and do. There's even a few free rides in there too.

Thanks matey, Scuff doesn't seem to think so:rofl:

That'll be the difference between a pro and a trying amateur then! (me, not you ;))

:D:rofl:

Tell me about it – it's £15 each for us, and if we'd have gone 2 weeks ago our lad would have got in free but he turned two last week so now he has to pay half. It's alright though because I'm taking it out of his pocket money

Thanks matey, Scuff doesn't seem to think so:rofl:

Stop trying to start a fight Chris :nono::nono: :P

I took the 70-200 f2.8 for another workout.

I've got some meerkat pics around somewhere too. We should start a new thread, so we can undertake a full and proper comparison :)

Yes, yes, in fact maybe someone should start a website dedicated to this very subject. Perhaps a high budget TV advertising campaign too....
