Ignition switch / immobilizer.

Featured Replies

Hello good people

I've recently acquired a skoda felicia 1.9 diesel pick up. The latest of several introductory problems has been that the spring in the ignition switch has gone. I've fitted a 2nd hand switch unit, onto which I put the immobilizer ring, assuming that by keeping the old key on the keyring next to new one, the transponder would be close enough to work. It doesn't. So I've tried starting with the old key in the old unit with the immobilizer ring on it, and the new 2nd hand key and switch unit wired into ignition. This doesn't work also. Am I to try and take the transponder out of first key and fit into 2nd (even though the original key is a laser cut one and the replacement one is the old fashioned type). OR try and take good spring out of new ignition switch and put it in original. I hope this makes sense, and really hope someone can help?

Many thanks

Matt.

Try wrapping the head of the key that fits your switch in layers of foil to block its transponder signal, and hold the original key next to the read coil. Once the car has started it won't have to read the transponder until the next time it is started.

Mmm interesting, I'll give it a go tonight and let you know how I get on.

Thank you.

Ahead of trying Fordfan's advice of wrapping the key in foil to block transponder signal, I was wondering whether there's a possibility of opening up the immobilizer ring and joining wires together to allow fuel pump to work on ignition? Although I wouldn't want to bugger immobilizer up and end further up the swanny! Any thoughts?

Matt.
