Problem with dash/speedo

Featured Replies

Hey guys, The other morning i was driving and noticed my speedometer has stopped working. It stays constantly at 0mph. For a day or so it would randomly flick up to the correct speed, then shortly after drop back to 0mph. Now, it is permenantly at 0. The fuel gauge was doing the same thing, it seems to rise up to the correct level, then randomly drop etc. Its a 2001 Fabia, the 1.4MPI. Ive pulled all the fuses, replacing 1 blown one, with no effect on fixing the problem. I have also removed the dash, unplugged it, and replugged it back in, blowing any dust etc out of the cable connection. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Kindest regards, 2012.

Fault code scan would be best bet in tracking it down. Probably a voltage regulator fault.

Do you mean reading the fault codes through the port behind the little popdown storage compartment?

Many thanks

Yes mate, if youve checked the fuses and your 100% sure one has blown then check with VAG-COM. Failing that, Ive heard of several Ibiza owners having problems with the 'cluster' and they arent cheap to replace.

Wasn't this the problem with the 2nd Mongrel, the white one?

I didn't think that had a iffy fuel sender too though, thought that was the gear box sensor that had packed in?

I'm sure Jason will correct one of us ;)

2012 - Where both needles picking up and dropping at the same exact time? cuz that sounds suspiciously like a loom fault (but I know nothing about this stuff and I'm prob wrong)

I had a similar problem with the entire 'pod' of instruments on my 54 vRS. When the wipers were on intermittent the display would light up(ALL warning lights!), then go dead, taking the rev counter, speedo etc with it, then after 'zeroing', come back to life after a few seconds! My local dealer(Claybank:thumbdwn:) had it in several times for a total of nearly three weeks out of the next four and couldnt find anything wrong with it, so in the end out of desperation I bought the Haynes manual(I know!), and within half an hour traced it to the control unit for the dash unit somehow being fried!:holmes:

It was still under warranty so I got it replaced for nothin, but they weren't for telling me what it had cost them, so I dread to think!!
