Window Regulator

Featured Replies

Hi,

While I was out today I put my rear window down and a big clunk was to be heard. I took apart the door panel etc and the whole window has fallen to the bottom of the door. To be honest last time I looked at an electric window mechanism was when it was the scissor type.

Anyway I am completely confused regarding the fitment of a new regulator, the haynes manual is next to useless. A black bit on a cable has snapped so I am assuming I will need the whole regulator. So basically to refit a regulator is it just a case of taking the old one out, putting a new one in and making the window lean on? press near? the window?

Any info appreciated, but more importantly will a Octavia II rear nearside window regulator fit a Octavia I ?

Thanks

Jon

Its a common fault. I've had 3 go on my Octy. Bits are about £60. Don't know if the Mark 2 will fit.

I have replaced 2 now in the past 3 years - who made this things?? It took about 1-hr to replace at a local garage. You need to buy a new one because it cannot get fixed - I tried that

Ok, thanks for the info :)

The guide seems to be different from my car, I see a lot of guides and people advertising rear electric regulators with 2 side bars, mine only had one, right in the middle, there is no other bars in the door, just that one, I would ask if that sounds right but it has to be, unfortunately I have found no guides that tell me how to refit the glass and regulator with a one bar slide.

I misread the the fact that it was a rear window, Removal of the door card should be similar to the front doors. Then you will see the door carrier which the regulator is attached too. To remove the glass, remove the plastic bungs in the carrier then raise the glass until you can see the clamp screws (probably 10mm hex head screws) Undo the clamp screws and raise the glass up and out of the door. The electrics and lock mechamism have to be removed from the carrier and then the carrier can be removed.

Does your regulator look like this?

Hi

thanks for the info, yes it looks very similar to that, it doesn't have the bit at the bottom that I could see. The thing is on mine there is a black plastic bit attached to a wire. That bit had snapped so wasn't attached to anything, I am not sure where that bit attaches to once I get a new regulator sorted. I guess it goes on the metal bit at the bottom of the glass but how. Does it slot in, screw in? I do have a Haynes manual but it doesn't really give good information on the rear window.

Jon

I would imagine the black plastic bit attached to the wire cable has broken away from the slide which carries the glass. The new regulator comes complete, so you only have to clamp the glass to it.

Ok cool, will see what happens tomorrow, I am not getting a new regulator, a scrap yard has one from an Octavia they are breaking.

Well went to scrappies today and got a regulator for £25, it came complete with motor etc and looks in far far better condition than mine despite the car being the same reg. Anyway it was quite a simple job in the end, and its all working again, thanks for the info everyone :)
