Smoking heavily under throttle, any ideas??

Featured Replies

That was the pipe that split at Jabbasport when he was mapping mine. Think about £80 IIRC. Its in the garage as a memento lol

Have checked pipes again today, cannot see any leaks at all. Car is pulling slightly above the desired boost levels when checked on Vagcom.

Have also swapped the vacuum box over to rule that out

Been out for a run up and down the motorway, it is wet so spray about. Got back home and the fuel cooler under the drivers seat is steaming. NEVER seen this before on any of my fabias, is this normal??

Done some logs on Vag Com, here are the results showing desired and actual boost maps ad revs against time for both a short and longer run. Both look OK to me. But MAF reading seem stange, the desired level never changes from 850, and the actual hits 1249.5 which must be maximum regularly.

Could this be a mapping problem?

never seen that before myself either  that cooler is cooling the fuel going back to the tank , so it has been through the fuel system in the head , so could get quite hot after a run

fuel temp sensor problem perhaps , wrong reading

Was only doing 60-75mph up the motorway? Fuel temp appears to be about 60-75 celcius according to Vag com, but the fuel cooler was 'hot' to touch. Have to say, never seen this before on any of my Fabia's

Right, more checked today. Looked at fuel temp sensor and it is sooty?? Not good I think? I then changed the fuel temp sensor and the large cam driven fuel pump on the side of the engine too, still to no avail.

I then swapped the map back to a std map, and the smoke is almost entierly gone. Have now put a mild map back on the car, pull 1.6bar boost and very little smoke, probably still slightly more than there should be but very little.

The car is marginally down on power, probably 5-10% i would guess at, so not massive amounts just loads of smoke.

BTW, car reaches boost almost instantly, will hit 1.7bar in less about 1 second

Any more thoughts?

Alex

stumped..........would have instantly thought boost leak.....obv prob seems to be deeper than that......
