Yes it does as rumour has it that it will be the engine fitted in the Fabia vRS when it finally reaches our shores next year :)

The twin charger version is being fitted in the new Ibiza Cupra.

That's a great news guys :) but does the standard 1.4 16V petrol engine can be converted to 1.4TSI??

Not only would the1.4 TSI fit OK but the latest 7 speed DSG, which is 'dry', more compact and lighter than the original 'wet' 6 speed DSG, has been partially designed to fit in smaller Polo/Fabia/ Ibiza sized cars. Also it will lend itself to stop start technology - apparently.

Skoda should replace the 1.6 16valve with the 1.4 TSi 122ps turbocharged unit and put the 1.4 TSi 160ps twincharger in the next Fabia vRS. A warm hatch and a hot hatch. Don't hold your breath though!

Completely different engine so no.

The 120bhp 1.4 TSI strikes me as the engine the Fabia has been waiting for and we wouldn't have to wait for a vRS to fit it. To be honest I feel the current Fabia has rather an ageing and uninspiring engine range, along with the other VW group small cars.

Some of the Fabia mark 1's engines were quite contemporary and powerful for the time eg the 1.9PD and the 1.4 100 bhp petrol, and it got the 3 cylinder petrols quite soon after their introduction to the VW group. I always feel that the current Skoda range lacks the engines to fully bridge the gap between the supermini ones of the Fabia and Roomster and the "family car" ones of the Octavia.

Despite the development of the 1.4 twin chargers (restricted pretty much to the Golf and Golf derived cars in VW only) the VW group seems to be just starting to catch up with the competition in developing small capacity, economical but sprightly engines, of which the 1.4TSI is the first. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 1.2T 104bhp destined for the new Polo and Yeti to end up in the Fabia.

1.2 TSi 104ps, 1.4 TSi 122ps & 1.4 TSi 160ps What a fantastic range of petrol engines that would make for the Fabia, economical, low emissions, excellent performance with diesel like torque.

A mainstream one, a warm one and a hot vRS - great customer choice.

Who would want/need a diesel?

That well-know source of rumour wikipedia (free pinch of salt with every entry) hints that the estate may get the 1.4 TSI 125 as a range-topping option.

Not holding my breath...

Sad to think that the 1.6 I have in my Fabia II is as fast as it gets, lets hope this is temporary and the Fabia gets the new TSI range (And the new 1.6TDI) that it deserves. New 1.2TSI is interesting, that puts out as much power as the current 1.6 and probably has more torque, just whats needed when everyones concerned with fuel economy and emissions

Skoda say that the Fabia facelift next year will include "mechanical changes including to engines" so I imagine that the 1.2TSI will replace the 1.6 16v petrol, and the new 1.6 TDI-CRs will replace the 1.4 and 1.9TDIs.

Disappointed not to see a 1.4 TSI 4motion set-up on the engine list for the new Yeti.

This omission has limited the petrol option to the 1.8, which is a fine motor but a larger bhp than some potential buyers like myself might be looking for.

There is of course the diesels, sadly though they have been blessed with a DPF. :thumbdwn:

Kerching!

Not sure with the current choices we have a 1.4 4x4 would be possible. The 1.4 gearbox is too small to take a transferbox.

The VW Tiguan has a 1.4TSI 4motion option although a 150 bhp unit. So I would have thought it possible to use a 122 bhp set-up to bridge the gap between the 1.2 and the 1.8.

There is a rummor that 2010 on the engines will be ok to run E85.

Ah I havent seen one of those as yet.

Speaking to my dealer principal yesterday and he states that the new vRS will arrive in 2010 WITH the 1.4 TSi engine...

Hes quite definate about it too

According to Czech news sources, with the Fabia facelift next year, the 1.4-16v engine will be replaced by the new 1.2 TSI and the 1.6-16v will be replaced by the 1.4 TSI (presumably the 120BHP version, saving 170BHP version for the new RS)

I hope they replace the 1.9PD with the 1.6CR before Oct 2010 :D

The 1.2TSi engine will find it's way into the Fabia soon after the Yeti launch no doubt. The 1.4TSi I'm sure will be available in 122bhp version if not the same time very soon after.

The 1.6CR engine will be around very soon, for some reason I thought production of this engine in an Octavia was going to be in a May or June but haven't heard anything for a while.

Nice to see you back James, been on holiday? Good news about the 1.6, do miss a CR diesel.

The 1.6CR will replace the 1.9(with DPF) in June for the Octavia, 1.9 will continue without DPF.

I guess the 1.6CRs will come to the Fabia for the facelift next year. Seems like it will be a big facelift with an almost entirely new engine lineup! Hopefully they'll do something to ramp up the interior quality too, then I might consider a new RS, otherwise it will be a Yeti for me next :)

What do you think is wrong with the cabin quality in the new Fab? Granted its not a Golf, but not Golf money, ive been impressed with the cabin quality in mine (once they fixed the rattles).

Well I have a Roomster, so I know what it's like. It's not bad, but the other models in Skoda's range show they "could do better" Maybe it's intentional? If you want a better interior you have to go up the range.

Main things would be the plastic door pulls and general cheaper feeling to the doors (compared to the Fabia1) no longer slush-moulded dash, cheap upper glove lid...

But the bits you touch most often (steering wheel and hand brake) are really nice on my Scout and I think the dash is a step forward in design over the old Fabia, if not on quality.
