My unregistered Fabia?!?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Not your usual post this! Anyways, I picked up my Fabia in the back end of last year. Was given the little slip from the log book, the guy said he'd post the rest of the book off the next day. Its been awhile now and im still without any log book. My car tax is coming up soon and im going to be unable to tax my car without this being sorted - i think?!? Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get this sorted? I'll be in deep **** if my car ends up off the road!

Many thanks,

Dave

You can tax the car with the slip. But best contact the DVLA and get them to send the V5.

So long as you have the new owners slip, the DVLA can send you the V5 off for nothing.

If not, you'll end up paying for it aswell as proving the vehicle is yours (reciept etc etc).

I have the small strip!

When i last tried to tax a car with that slip i was told it's only valid for seven days. After that it has to be the proper job!

Any ideas how i go about getting one?

You cant request the V5 from the DVLA via a form from the Post Office or the website I believe.

or probably a quick phone call. had to call them 3-4 times before, always been friendly and helpful on the blower

Isn't this all the wrong way round? I thought you gave the v5 to the new owner and made sure that you posted a slip off to the DVLA to say you had got rid of the car?

The V5 is kept (and hopefully) sent off by the previous owner, once it has the new owners details completed on it durig the transaction.

The new owner keep the small slip until the full document arrives in the post.

do the post office not have a form where you can fill in and request the V5 when getting tax?

The green slip (new keepers supplement) is valid to tax a car for 2 months from date of sale as written on it, I've done 2 on slips in the last 3 months and both were well old

The back of the slip tells you what to do if you have not received a new registration certificate after 6 weeks, ie contact the DVLA on 0870 240 0010 or the alternative numbers for that which can be found via the link below.
