Cops and Rubber.....

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have managed to find an 07 vRS Estate with 100k on the clock that was owned by our very nice boy's in blue. Its going for £6,000

Its an Ex-traffic car, probably been followed by it at some point!, and looks in pretty good nick. I was wondering what peoples opinion was on whether this would make a good purchase at the price or whether I should not bother with it.

My feeling at the moment is that although it is V.high mileage at least I know it would have been well serviced and although probably driven a little harder than us mere mortals are allowed to do, the quality of the newer Octy's (and older one's obvioulsy! ;)) would make this a worth a look.

On one hand, it'll have been serviced regularly and on time with OEM parts.

On the other, it'll have been ragged from cold on many occasions (middle of the night, call comes in, jump in car with cold engine and speed off into the night).

Personally, I would stay away. They're that price for a reason.

I don't think it's cheap enough.

There are many pros and cons most of which have been covered above - and to be honest I think you mentioned most points in your original post.

This topic has been discussed a few times on here, and I think it comes down to what the price is in each individual case, taking into account the pros and cons mentioned.

If £6k is the asking price and has a reasonable amount of negotiation in it then maybe it starts to look attractive. If its a bottom line then probaly not.

Our cars were superbly maintained, so peace of mind there. My friend bought his ex job car from auction and had no issues with it at all.

It is a case of if its 'under priced ' sufficiently and you can obtain the service history then it must be worth some thought, it depends how much faith you have in the product overall, and how negotiable the price is?.

Being a standard trained driver (response and follows on lights and sirens) I would agree that it will have been serviced regularly and tyres replaced well before they need to be.

BUT

I would also say that I am trained (on a blue light run) to almost red line it before changing gear and to use the gears in such a way that I will (and have done so) be overtaking people in 2nd gear, and stayed in it, where most people would've changed up to 3rd and more likely 4th.

Plus as already mentioned 24 hours a day, from cold to 80+ without worrying about the engine etc.

The only thing it has going for it is that if it is owned by Traffic they do look after their cars better than the response teams and most of their speed work is on motorways.

Does that help any......probably not but it might do.

As an aside the bobbies I know who drive octy Vrs's absolutely love them.

i agree with stu, price is too high
