Unlocking Symphony with VAG-COM

Featured Replies

The backlight on my (Fabia) Symphony decided to stop working this morning, so I whipped fuse 45 out to do a reset, and it came back with 'SAFE 1000'. Which is odd in itself as it's the stereo it came out of the factory with. Even more strangely, though, I can't enter the code using the station preset buttons. I hooked my shareware VAG-COM up to it, and it'll communicate OK, but when I try to log in this way, it asks for a five-digit code, not a four-digit one. Am I barking up the wrong tree here, or should I just enter the code? :(

TIA

When you add 4 digit SKC code you have to place a 0 in front of the code, worth a try?

That's what I'm hoping - good to know someone else is thinking the same...

If not, it looks like SWMBO's old MS501 is going in in its place. Pity that won't take a CD changer, otherwise I'd be perfectly happy with the exchange... :ne_nau:

Sounds like there maybe a fault with the fascia in which case you might it find it won't work once unlocked anyway - Nothing to lose I guess.

Nope, completely kaput... :( Ah well, SWMBO's old MS402 is in for now, so at least I can listen to the radio and my old C90s (e.g. Paul Oakenfold's Goa Mix taped off the radio a good 15 years ago! :o )

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions - now going to see if there's any way I can botch my Alpine CD Changer to the MS402, or failing that, anywhere that still sells Alpine HUs old enough to still be compatible with changers... :ne_nau:

You cannot enter the radio code via diagnostics.

Ah, I have fond memories of the original MS402 tape deck in my fabia. Only good thing was it at least powered all the 4 woofers and tweeters, and sound was not bad. It was just having not had tapes since about the mid 90s, it soon gave way to an MP3 player.
