Phones - I've narrowed it down to two.

Featured Replies

Nokia N82 - Nokia Europe - Nseries

SE K850i - Sony Ericsson - Overview - K850i

I realise that both phones are in different classes and the N82 is much more expensive but has anyone had any experience with either of these phones?

I'm hoping to get one on fleabay as new condition. There are a few about of either phone at the minute. Failing that I will bit the bullet and buy one new.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

I know that the K850i was riddled with bugs initially and several FW updates should of sorted these but if you get one, ensure that its a debranded (no network software) on it so then when you do the update at home then you can get the very latest updates. I say this cos once SE or Nokia release an update it takes a while (maybe months) for each operator to tinker with and approve it and release it for update.

The Nokia, like many is a S60 device and there are hundreds if not thousands of 3rd party apps to run on it.

Personnally, I dont like the look of the N82, but you can do much more with it than the K850

Have you thought about a N95 8Gb (the black one)? I used to have one, very very good phone. I swapped that for a SE C902 which was good, but didnt do half as much as the N95 so I have given that SWMBO and bought an E71.

Yeah apart from the memory difference the N82 does pretty much everything the N95 does. The thing that puts me off with the N95 is the slider, I'm not sure how durable it will be after a year or two. I've seen a few with problems on the slider mechanism.

Avoid the K850i like the plague. I had 3 of them all of which were plagued with Bugs as already mentioned. No amount of firmware updates (including custom ones) solved all the probs. If it did then new ones were created. The only thing its useful for is smashing windows as its big enough to do so. The probs ranged from contacts not opening so had to master reset, unable to receive texts, camera not working then working but only in Bestpic mode, alarm works for 2 weeks then just stops going off yet when you test it it works. I havent had one for around 7-8 months now but unless you can find one on the very first firmware then they are carp (my dad has one on the original as released firmware and that has been fine)

Yep - i just got rid of my K850 on fleabay. Bugs, slow, poor camera, abismal PC software support and the firmware updates never really fixed the issues i had - except the last one which enabled the bluetooth coms with the Skoda bluetooth and setup the phonebook finally! In my experience - best avoided!

Not used Nokia in years so can't comment on the N92.

Good luck.

My N95 (silver v1) lasted 2 years heavy use, no problems at all.

Nokia learnt alot from the N80's poor slider. The N96 is even better!

That is all that needs to be said

The K850i isn't that bad, it's an older model now but generally they are reliable handsets.

I've had the SE K800i and K770i and haven't had any hassle with either tbh.
