knocking from front suspension

Featured Replies

i bought my vrs octavia about 6 weeks ago now and its been a gem apart from the knocking which started after i hit an un marked speed hump in the dark at about 40mph....not good..

well i got it on the ramp and noticed that the wishone rubbers were split and perished so bought myself new wishbones and bottom ball joints too...while fitting them i managed to round the end off the thread on the hub side of the drive shaft so had to replace the outer cv joint too..tut tut rookie error i know thats what i get for rushing.

anyway, ot it all back together and sure enough its still knocking...so i have ordered new link arms for the anti roll bar even though they look fine i want to rule them out and for 30 quid its not too expensive.

thing is all the visual inspections on the ramp look in great condition, its only dont 66k and has a full service history and one owner,

i have noticed that since it started knocking the steering seems to wander and on cornering it feels unstable occasionally as if the wheels are flexing aswellas turning and also under breaking there seems to be a lot of instability especially from speed.

if anyoe has experienced ths before or heard of anything similar, please let me know what the solution was, or if you have an idea what itcould be.

thanks,

When I test drove my car prior to buying it there was a slight knock from the front suspension. The garage had this fixed prior to me collecting it and told me that the anti roll bar bushes had been replaced.

Knock has now gone.

Editted to say mine is about the same mileage and also 1 owner, full history.

:iagree:

Yep mine knocked too, it was the ARB bushes. Doesn't mean it's the same on yours but they're pretty cheap and easy to do so why not

i hit a man hole cover the other day and now mines doing it. only over speed bumps though, even if i crawl over them. i've still got warranty on it though so i'm going to take it back.

Have you checked or replaced the lower ball joints and track rod ends? Some of your description, notably the stuff about wandering and instability, makes me think of them.

I had knocking over rough ground and bumps until the other day.

I replaced both drop links and ARB bushes, and now it's gone. My bushes wern't that badly worn and the joints on the drop links were very loose, so I suspect it was the links causing the noise.

Tis an easy job to do the links, and like you say only £30, so I'd try that next.

yes have replaced the bottom ball joint did that when i did the wishbones,

seems like i need to be getting under to eliminate the anti roll bar then.

thanks guys, hope this cures it
