Anybody tried the TT short-shifter?

Featured Replies

Has anybody on here tried to fit the TT/R32 gearshift lever, which acts like a short-shifter (on a vRS that is)? :o

Ive often wondered if other 6 speed VAG shortshifters would fit, but seems expencive to buy one, just to see if it fits.

Maby a Jabbasport member could help out on this thread??

Hi

The Forge short shifter will not fit I am afraid

The TT and the R32 levers cost 22 euro, so really nice price. Apparently there is something else that should go with it to fit. I can't really understand, as there are several different types that are claimed to be suited with the 6 speed gearbox.

Here is some reading that I found useful, but still not convincing:

VWvortex Forums: Part Number Needed (TT Short Shifter)

TT short shifter fitted!! - uk-mkivs

I have one of those, but at first glance it looks nothing like the one that I have in my 2007 vRS...

Help! :o

PS: Forgot to add I have the JNC gearbox in my vRS!

Just to stop you before wasting your time and money - NONE of the above short shifters fit the Fabia vRS, there is no room, and they won't fit.

Several of them were tried, some kind of fit but were no good. Best one is to just cut the shaft down and there is a thread on here how to do that. It will cost you a little in a pipe cutter and a clip, plus a fair bit of elbow grease, and it works very well and looks stock.

Also, it works well

Thanks! I reckoned it won't be a problem, because they fit those to the leons, but probably more room there. I will investigate some more anyway, don't fancy cutting the shaft.

That's the thing, there is no room - all other short shifter products for the 6 speed boxes work well in the Leon, the Golfs and TT for example, but not in the Polo for the same reason as in the Fabia - just isn't the room.

Cutting the shaft is actually not as 'bad' as it sounds, there is nothing to particularly go wrong, it looks OEM, and it does the job :)

I was weary of going this route myself, but I gave up waiting for off the shelf solutions, and a few other Fabia owning mates of mine had the short shifter mod, so I tried it, and Xavier kindly did the cutting for me as he already had the tooling

Has someone done a guide about this cutting down, as I have a stock 02M shifter arm I could butcher. :)

God, why have I never seen that?...!.

Edit: Oh wait, I have seen it :o but want to do something to the selector arm, not the gearlever itself. :)

Cutting the shaft seems a little desperate to me. Is it not easyer to extend the linkage somewhere, or the pivots?

Seems cutting it just seems abit crude, and the standard shifter is the right height for my long.

Ill have to investgate further.

Also, where does the lack of room come from? With me moving the battery and having a BMC box I might have room to run a short shift kit....? I know you can see the lever moving clearly from above now.

It's not even under the battery tray. I don't know why it shouldn't fit.

Thats right. I need some light too look, so cant till the morning. Really want to sort this out.

Apparently it was not working well, and this was checked by two companies, both reputable.

Still, if you're happy with it, then why not :D

Forge gave up on the idea, as Sarah from Awesome can confirm ;)

Thats abit slack on Forge's part !!

I'm sure it was a commercial decision, market isn't that big I guess, but I don't want to speak for Forge ;)
