Haha I like your thinking Ken! I'll give that a go tonight.

I'm guessing you mean jam the end of the screwdriver under the arm? I'm just a bit worried about damaging the glass, as the motor shaft comes through a hole in the rear screen.

I'll see how I get on anyway. Better get me some PlusGas too.....

IME there's always a retaining nut of some sort "under" the arm. The blade of the screwdriver goes between the arm and that nut. Oh and don't forget to leave the arm retaing nut on and a couple of turns loose!

Done it!

Used a Sealey heavy duty wiper arm puller in the end, and just some one inch rubber bungs from halfords, which fit perfectly.

I did buy some black silicone sealant, but the bung seals so well I haven't used it. I've left the trim panel off for now incase it does leak though!

Saved a fair bit of weight! Plus as soon as I pulled of the arm, it looked so much better. I'll get some pictures up soon, as the car is a bit dirty right now!

I've also disconnected the hose from the pump and zip-tied it to one side. Just gotta decide what to do with the spare pump outlet now.....

Here's what I removed/used:

Does your boot lid feel lighter now?

  • Author

Yeah it does, but not massively. I'm sure the gas struts are happier now though! The boot lid still has enough momentum to close properly though, so you can still swing it down with the rope to avoid finger marks on the bootlid.

I'll weigh all the bits I removed if I get a chance, just incase anyone ever wants to know.

Also noticed a much cleaner rear view on the drive to work today. I like!

Right, gave the car a quick wash and polished the rear screen:

50p grommet that seals perfectly:

My Honda Civic never had one...and I miss it everytime I drive it wet off the drive..after that it clears itself

Hmm looking at that last photo really makes me want to remove the octavia and rs badges......

very nice i did my rear wiper on sunday:D

when you take the badges off just make sure there isnt any paint damage like there is on mine.......it does look really clean without them on but for me i have to put a new one on to cover the dodgy paint lol

nice motor

Looks much tidier

Of course, there's still a hefty bit of pointless plastic on the top of the rear deck. ;)

Yeah but that looks cool!

My dad refers to it as the push bar for my skip. He's clearly a comedy genius! I regularily get all the classic 80's Skoda jokes from him!

If a big pile of snow is left on the car slowly defrosting though the water may more easily find it's way in.

Fear not! After having similar thoughts playing on my mind over the weekend, I removed the grommet yesterday and ran a thin bead of sealant around the inner edge to make sure it was a proper seal.

Re-fitting the boot trim was a treat as per usual! So tempting to smash it against the floor and start punching the crap out of it in an 'Office Space' style! Those top clips are so annoying!

Top tip for you if you need to fit your boot trim again in the future. Take your parcel shelf out and sit yourself in the boot and pull the lid down. You'll find it soooo much easier to fit the trim when your not reaching 6 foot in the air :D

You've started a trend here, I did mine at the weekend including de-badging....

sorry to bring this back up again but my rear motor has stopped working so i was going to try and remove it myself. what tools do i need to remove it. i will get the grommets fro halfords.

thanks for your help

Just a socket set I belive. Probably a couple of different sizes inbetween 8mm to 14mm.

As for getting the boot trim back on, my advice is to not bother with the two central clips at the top. I'm relying on just the outside 2 of the 4 clips and you wouln't know the difference. Feels just as solid as before and was a million, no make that a billion times easier to refit!

I've been considering removing the rear wiper arm from my car for a while now, I would then be tempted to do something funny with the spare washer hose!............ What do you think?

Well I rather like the idea of fitting a fine-spray nozzle to fire used engine oil out of the rear washer aimed at the windscreen of the occasional very annoying toe-rag in the car behind who considers it necessary to drive within a foot of my back bumper.

A quick squirt of oil and a simultaneous lead foot on the accelerator should do the trick.

It would take months (if ever) for the unlucky toe-rag to get his/her windscreen in good shape again, and chances are that they would never tailgate anyone again for the rest of their lives.

Maybe because they would be dead?

One can only hope so.......emoticon-0169-dance.gif

You might need a wiper arm puller for getting the arm off the spline.

Mine was stuck hard, so I got a heavy duty arm puller from Sealey. Worked a treat.
