Connecting new stereo from bare wire

Featured Replies

Ahoy,

I've just acquired an R reg Felicia 1.9D. It has no wiring harness and I'd quite like to fit a stereo. Can anybody tell me what colour each of the wires probably do. I'm assuming red and yellow are for power and from what I've read one of them needs to be connected to 12v battery and to 12v memory. Any ideas what brown might be? Also, any ideas what colour of speaker cable might relate to which speaker?

Many thanks

Red = Live

Brown = Neutral

Yellow = Interior Light Feed (to radio)

Black = Aerial Amplifier feed

Green = Front Left + speaker

Grey = Front Left - speaker

Blue = Front Right + speaker

Brown = Front Right - speaker

Green (black tracer) = Rear Left +

Grey (black tracer) = Rear LEft -

Blue (black tracer) = Rear Right +

Brown (black tracer) = Rear right -

i think the brown speaker wires were replaced with purple ones on some models (98>??)

if the colours are different maybe i could halp a little.

use the continuity function of a multimetre to find an earth using your chasis

then find your permanent using the voltage(20v) function, there should be 2, (ther is on mine), if thers onli one then ur in luck.

next find ur ignition live, using the 20v function again, but ull have to turn the ignition on first (itll be nothing when the engines off obviously lol)

thats ur main wires sorted, u shudnt need any more unless u have a power areal.

to find each set of speakers use the continuity function again, if youve got a continuos circuit uve got a speaker, so u shud find 2/4 pairs.

to find which speaker the wire relates to geographically, use a double A battery connect one wire to + one wire to - and see which speaker crackles.

thats a really quick guide so sorry if its hard to understand. hope it helps abit more to find each wire

:confused:

there is no ignition switched live in a favorit or felicia

That's a really strange layout.

When you say 'Brown = Neutral' should that be grounded?

As I think is standard I don't have a live ignition so I might get a switch.

Thanks again, I'm off to see if this works.

yes brown is negative (or ground)

make sure you are not using the interior lighting feed wire (yellow) that you properly insulate it otherwise it may short and trip out the lighting regulator circuit(most aftermarket radio's dont need this wire)

Awesome, I have a working stereo, shame about the speakers though.

Thank you very much!
