Turbo Timer

Featured Replies

Hey

Does anyone if it is even remotly possiable to fit one of these on a hybrid VRS?

Just trying to figure it cause as your are all aware people always ask you to wram the oil up in the turbo then after a 'spirited' drive allow it to cool down as well

So is i posiable to use this like the petrol turbo boys can?

And if so which one would you use?

Scott

None. Drive normally for a few miles after a spirited drive.

There really isnt any point in fitting one. To do so on any car with the immobiliser built into the ecu, like it is on the Fabia will mean that you would have to bypass said imobilser which will invalidate the thatcham rating on your car and have major consequences for insurance purposes.

What we all do, is just drive gently for the last few miles. I am sure you live on work/drive in town with 30mph limit and driving like a loon in those circumstances is stupid.

Both fair points

Just thinking for doing track days etc.

I mean you should be comfortable in coming off the track and lettign the car idle for 10-15 minutes after of course

A cool down lap at a reasonable speed without working the turbo hard is perfectly sufficient. You don't want to leave it idling either really, because there's no airflow to any of the cooling system and so things will get hotter, not cooler.

One of my mates races his Austin Mini turbo (metro turbo engine, bored to 1430cc).

Every time he comes off the track, he drives to the pits, and has a load of fans than clip on to the rad, the oil cooler and the intercooler.

Thats probably ott, but if your worried about track day carnage, its a good idea.

Other thing you could do is fit an oil cooler to start with. Ebay have some great ones now and then.

expect to pay £100-£140 for a good cooler and all the hose, clips and union joints etc.

Cheers Dave good suggestion there

Cheers shark- the thought did cross my mind about that, maybe it would also be possiable to put a manuel overide for the actual fan on the engine? So instead of it coming on at a set temp, it could also be switched on manually?

Yes you could do that.. what you could do with is an after-run pump (don't know if the PD130 has one?) which carries on circulating the coolant and possibly oil too if you can, and keep the cooling fan on.

Make sure you have a good battery though!
