INSP Flashing Light & 4 Digit Code Question

Featured Replies

Hi.

The INSP warning is flashing on the dash of a Fabia I'm looking to buy.

I pressed it after turning the ignition and it changed to OIL.

Is it likely that the place that serviced it last just didn't reset it?

I had a go at resetting the service light, (pressing reset button on, turning the ignition), but this comes up with 4 zeros which can be adjusted to a 4 digit number by pressing the reset button and turning the reset stick.

I will find the proper instructions on how to reset if that is what's needed, but what is that 4 digit number for?

Thanks,

Adam

Ps. Car now on 71000 miles, last serviced at 64000 (1.9 TDI Elegance)

The 4 digit code allows you to enter the 4 digit SKC (sort of like a pin number) and effectivly bypass the cars electronic immobiliser for that start, next time it returns to normal again.

Thanks for the quick reply, it's cleared it up.

On another note, I can't seem to find a radio code in the handbook.

If I swap the radio out will it ask me for a radio code if I were to reinstall it, or doesn't it run on codes?

The code for the current radio is stored in the cars ECU, if you have no plans to fit an upgraded factory unit then you dont need the code. The code would only be needed if A) you install another better oem unit that will overwrite the code stored on the ecu, or B) if you are going to sell the headunit to someone else. In either of these cases then you need to ask the dealer for the code.
