Dear All,

Considering it takes approximately 2 to 3 mins to clear the traffic signal (In Bangalore), is it advicible to turn off the engine ?

How much deisel is consumed to switch ON the engine? and how much is consumed in waiting period of 2 to 3mins would help me to take the decision effectively?

Please suggest.

It's a good question and I've wondered the same. If I feel I am going to be waiting for more than 30 seconds I usually turn off the engine but it would be nice to know for sure.

I thought that when restarting the engine it would use more fuel up than if you'd left it on? I may be wrong lol just what i'd been lead to believe.

That's the one thing that's for sure; you will wear the starter motor and battery. Also, it won't help anything if the engine's not fully warmed up or, in view of your location, if the air con's running most of the time, cos that will just have to work harder when you start up again, and that loads the engine more.
