Would appreciate to know your experience finding the best area in Octy for mounting a radar detector. Since they are not allowed in my country, I've an idea to mount it close to the rear window so that the cops woun't notice I have one (all side-rear windows are dark tinted). Just need to instal a power cord with a switch next to the driver's seat.

Get a modular one. I have a regular unit mounted high (hardwired) by the rearview mirror, but they're allowed where I live, so the only real reason it's there is theft deterance.

I've also seen one mounted on the driver's side B pillar above the seat belt.

preferably you need to look for one which can have a sensor fitted near to the number plate as possible. laser only has about 1m diameter at about 1 mile range so if they targetting you at 400 yds then it aint gonna blink if you have it on the dashboard or even worse up near the mirror. Even then if it warns you they will already have your speed and have the ticket written out.

Laser detection is useless. Not even worth installing. Had a ticket issued to me once by a handheld laser unit. Less than 1 second and everything was over.

thanx God in my country there are no laser radars, however another problem arises. cops just got newest russian Iskra 1D pop radars (most of the detectors don't detect them in the lowest frequecy, but escort x50 euro and Valentine1 detects them) and newest Stalker radars that work in K band - the same band supermarket sliding doors work that makes practically impossible to use radar detector in the city

I have a belltronics 550 euro and that works perfectly in the city with supermarket doors etc. I have different settings for motorway etc to stop false alarms. Its a little old now but when i upgrade i'll go belltronics again because i know they work. Yes you havent got a chance with the man in a van when your locked on its to late but gatso's and the like :rofl: it just pizzes me off when a driver in front slows for a dead gatso thinking its live and wont move over and the people that flash to warn me of a gatso when i go past at warp speed:D

For any one thinking of installing them in the UK they are 110% illegal.... I read a few months ago in the Telegraph that police are going to to people homes at about 6am and seizing the cars for people that the police mobile trap man can't get a lock on to find out why he couldn't.

just so people dont get confused "jammers" are ILLEGAL. GPS, RADAR and LASER detectors are STILL LEGAL. if caught with a jammer you will be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice or even going equiped for a crime.

The satnav's with speed traps POI seem quite good and a better way of doing things IMO.

If you don't have a satnav can even get a small app for GPS mobile phones (iphone etc) for a few £'s that works quite well and displays the speed you are doing and the speed the 'trap' camera is at plus hang outs of mobile guns for most of Europe. The best of the iphone ones is called "POI-WARNER PRO" at £3.49 plus there free one is quite good at fixed places only.
