dogbone bush doesn't fit?

Featured Replies

I bought a SuperPro dogbone bush (the front tubular bush) the other week and went to have it fitted today but the mechanic looked at it on the ramp and said there was no way the bush was going to fit in the mount, and looking at it with him I was inclined to agree. Is there something we're missing? They don't squash down that much do they? The space it needs to go into is tiny , and that's without even considering the ally tube.

He said I need to buy the whole dogbone arm and even with the strongest press you'd struggle to get it in.

Anyone got any advice please? Have I bought the wrong bush? It was supposed to be for a Mark I hatchback vRS.

Cheers

i think youve got the wrong idea jay, i think he means the front section (not the 2 part rear)

jigger you talking about the bit you bought from me?

it should be the right part, it came as part of a kit for my car from PRI Racing and without wanting to sound rude everything else fitted.

also i dont know if i fully agree with the fact youve said you dont think it will fit on here, but in your classsified add you say you just cant be arsed to fit it?

They do fit but my word are they tight  A few concerned looks and expletives when I fitted mine as I didn't think I would get it in and having destroyed the original bush to remove it I was getting worried.

Easiest way is 2 large washers (Larger than the hole on the dogbone) and a long bolt and nut, think I used M12. Copious amounts of grease on the bush and in the dogbone hole help it slide in.

Bolt with a washer goes through the dogbone then slide bush on then next big washer and nut. Tighten it up and it will push the washer into the dogbone. HTH

It was the one I bought from you and it's a good point you make Mark, :o I'll go back and edit it. I meant that I couldn't be arsed but someone with the know-how, tools and dedication could fit it. I just didn't word it very well. I wasn't trying to con anyone and I'm embarrassed now. I suppose I need a specialist garage that knows about these things but I just went to a regular garage that balances my wheels and they seemed to think it was mission impossible.

Lex's tip is a good one though. (Thanks Lex) I've ordered the rear part now instead so I'll do that first and if I don't sell the other one, then maybe try it a later date.

Sorry for any misleading info :o:O
