What is the difference???

Featured Replies

I have been looking at gettin one of them polishing machines for my car, but they are a fair bit of money for a good one.

what I want to know is are they the same as the normal everyday grinder? I have a small hand held angle grinder that my grandfather gave me to do my fromt bumper cut out (never bothered with it as it makes the car look like an evo)

can it be used with the attachments?

is it safe?

or are they geared diff? ie the car ones are slower?

cheers

For a beginner, it is strongly recommended to use a dual action (DA) polisher - it gives a lot less heat build up (and therefore lower risk of paint damage) that a standard rotary machine.

Have a read of Machine Polishing by Dual Action Polisher - Full Guide - Detailing World which will help to explain why.

The entry price for DA polishing has reduced somewhat recently with the introduction of the Kestrel DAS-6 - around £80. Much cheaper than Porter Cable, Ultimate Detailin Machine (UDM) and Meguiars G220

cheers mate.

I have a cheap one with the 2 handles either side. now I know why it feels not balanced lol.

it has a fixed head though.

The Kestrel SIM180 you linked to is a rotary polisher.

The Kestrel DAS-6 I recommended above is a "Dual Action" polisher - I think the thats what the "DA" in DAS-6 stands for.

When you say "round and round" and "spiral" are you tring to describe the following....
