Felicia 98 engine idle speed.

Featured Replies

The engine idle speed is bad in my felicia 98. I have take a look at the spark plugs and they look good. I have put injection cleaner in the fuel tank but it is still the bad idle. This car has only 75.000km drive. Is someone here that can help me with this??

Best regards

When you say bad, what do you mean? My 1.3 MPi on a 2000 plate idles rough compared to my vRS.

Helo Helgi, i would like to try and help you with you idle problem.

First, im going to asume that is a injector type, since thats the most common in europe, or a monoinjector and not a carburetor model like mine.

if you have a bad idle, meaning, low idle or roughf idle, it means that the mix is not ok, so if you din't replace the air filter, cleaned the throttle assembly, you might want to start there.

if you alredy did that, and the idle is like your car want to shake water off like a dog, then you might want to try inspecting the dizzy and the dizzy cap for damages, if they're ok, change the HT cables.

you alredy replace the spark plugs, but you need to gap them correctly, my gaps are 0.80mm for BOSH and 0.70mm for NGK i've exeprimentented quite a bit cus i like to read the spark plugs.

if the intake and the dizzy + cables are ok and your still having bad idle, you might want to flush the engine, it happen to me after a may oinsident, that the car stalled a couple of times and had bad idle, after i put in a gallon of flush ran the car for 20min, and replace the oil with 15W40 (thats the one for my climate) i ran fine

keep posting and let us know if you solved your problem or if those thing dont work

there are other things that can give you a bad idle, but i'm pointing out the ones that in the past have afected me, and by the way, i'm not a mechanic, or an expert like some of the people here, just a regular john doe that like fiddling woth things

others here might help you out more than me (cus they do have more knowledge) but since where are not there fisicaly inspecting your car, whe can only offer advice and pointers, you have the definitive word, so try to explain as much as you can, that way, otheres here will be able to help you best

one more thing, the engine's idle is on 800 +/- 50 rpm with no load on. and for a smoother ride i set mine to 950 rpm (to compensate for higher watts lighbulbs) and if you have a vacuum leak it a sure thing that's the engine is going to idle rough

tonny, 98 is already mpi... monoinjector is only 1995/96

thanks for the info, and by the way, i envy you... (nice FE jejeje)

thanks to pollywog observation i checked and the idle is non adjustable in you car, so its a sensor thing, clean them out and let us know

also at the mono the idle speed is only adjustable via OBD...
