Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone with an octavia estate (between 1999 and 2003) let me know if the rear seats fold fully flat please?

I'm contemplating getting an estate to sleep in the back of instead of a tent when on weekends away, how possible do you think it is that i will fit? I was planning on pushing the front seats as far as they'll go forward and then putting some type of foot rest in the rear footwells. Thanks for any help.

I think they do but they are higher than the boot floor - unless you have variable floor.

Rear seats fold into rear footwells giving flat space from front seats to boot lid. Maybe this is on Elegance and other models which have raised boot floors thou.

The squab part of the seat sits vertically upright in the rear foot wells when the seats are folded down.

The seat part goes down flat and is level with the optional raised flat floor (standard on the later Elegance models).

I think you would need to unbolt the squab hinges from the floor and store the seats under the car to do as you suggest. There is a 60/40 split on the rear seats so you need to do this twice.

Why, what model do you have Sam? What's your opinion on the sleeping thing, think its possible? (i'm a 6 footer!). Cheers

That ain't an Octy mk1 estate. You should not be able to see the exhaust pipes..... well certainly not on my TDi.

My mk1 vRS estate does not fold fully flat. Even with the rear seats fully folded down (base folded into foot well and back rest folded flat) you still have a slight rise from the boot floor to the folded area of the seats.

However, would be a matter minutes to knock up a raised platform to sit int the boot area and level the whole area off. And, you could use the area beneath for storage of camping gear (or a sub!) when you are using the car for day to day stuff.

The A3 folds flat but does this by having higher boot area in the first place.

I'm also fairly confident that, length wise, the boot is long enough that you could sleep comfortably in the car.

Out of curiosity, why does the elegance have a raise boot floor? Is the elegance only available in 4WD?

Having slept in my car one time at the Big Chill, I'd advise against it if your main reason for wanting to do it is to stay dry. The reason being you will have to have at least one window (or the sunroof if you have one) open a good inch or so to avoid getting a stale air hangover in the morning, and so without a set of wind / rain deflectors, you'll get wet if it rains...

Mine is a 2003 Elegance Estate and is different to the one in the picture. No ski flap and much lower at the front when the seat is folded. Also looks like the pictured car does not have the false floor which raises the flat platform up near to boot aperture level at the back. Can't photograph mine as the boot is full full full.

I think the raised floor in the Elegance was an option, it makes it easier to load in heavy items in/out of the car. Good for transporting washing machines, etc.

I have an old sheet laying on the carpet floor, adn my socket sets, etc live there. For normal car use the false floor would be in on the top of that. When the dogs were in the car I would remove the false floor, and thus the dogs sit a bit lower and don't make the carpet dirty :thumb:

Also if you want to "hide" anything more expensive in the, such as a laptop it could easily go under the false floor and most people would be none the wiser. The false floor gives two handy pouches either side, which I keep a variety of bottles in (water, oil, window cleaner, car polish, brake fluid, etc)

I wonder if that picture is a late mk1 fabia estate or an octy 2 (not familiar with either). I'll try and take a picture of mine at some point.....

revised bodystyle - model still stands! :P

The picture looks like a octy 2 taken with a weird lens i think.:)

having slept in a car, i can say that condensation is horrendous unless you open lots of windows. Then the wind and rain get in.

^agreed, and a car does nothing to keep you warn even with the windows up the heat just gets conducted out of all the glass. I would (and have) sleep in a car, a boot floor not been totally flat wouldnt bother me nearly as much as the cold.
