Variable service?

Featured Replies

My Mk1 octy was on variable at 30,000 miles. When I changed to the Mk 2 with the PD engine the variable was 20,000 miles (18.5k was the usual mileage for service)

I've just spoke to Rainworth and dean is going to look into it for me. What I need to know tho is how the system works. Obviously when you change the oil in the car the oil sensor "knows" the quality of the oil and does its sums from there. But what would happen if someone reset the service counter BUT didn't change the oil? What would the sensor do then?

Dean has just got back to me and he has confirmed that the MK II PD engine can go upto 30,000 miles before a service, however, 20000 is the norm. I'm still confused because some of the reply's state that they have also spoke to Skoda and they have been told something different.

As others have posted the MK2 with PD engine on variable is 2 yrs/30,000 Kilometres (18,500 miles). I was told that when you switch on the ignition the oil is heated & the sensor checks it's condition, so if the service was reset, but the oil not changed the sensor should still detect the oil condition.

When the car came out of the factory it would be on variable servicing, variable can be between 10k - 18k depending on type of driving & journeys. I would change the oil & filter if in doubt.

Fitz - 36 quid for the long life 507 spec oil plus 6 quid for the filter. Just do it yourself. Surely a very small price to pay for piece of mind? The dealership just don't seem to know what they're talking about. :thumbdwn:

I think that might be the way foward. Change the oil now, get the car serviced in a few thousand miles. :)

IMHO your dealer is clueless.
