The mongrel has never been this clean I think

Featured Replies

Currently most of the car is sporting a thorough polish and two coats of collinite 476s. Sadly, my paint is about 8 years old and I'm no expert at the polishing up side of things so it's not perfect at all. However, the car is cleaner than I have seen it anywhere else I think. Proper time & effort has gone into this clean-up and I have been thankful for the great weather. This afternoon is engine bay time, and door shuts. :)

The bright sun behind didn't help this picture come out well sadly.

Still lots of work to do and I have been somewhat upset by the amount of chips on nearly every single panel. The "car" has done about 135,000 miles though. Eventually when funds allow I will be going for a full respray - probably in a totally ludicrous colour....

Looking good Jason , those wheels are great on the Fabia.

Yep always loved your wheels. Didn't you have them on the mk1?

Anyway looks like you've done a good job. Know what you mean about chips. My fabia's aweful at the front but I can't complain seeing as I like tracking it on anythng but the smoothest surface. LOL

It's a slippery slope... before you know it you'll have bought a Porter Cable and be out there every weekend making sure it's spotless!

I fear this is the next step, but I think it's pretty pointless on a tainted paint like mine. Needs a fresh coat of something, THEN looking after. :)

Yes, these wheels were on mk1... right up to the point of it crashing. The wheel pictured on the front left below is now on the car's front axle above, but I don't know which side. It was the only wheel to come out the inversion without severe damage (unlike the one on the back )

The mongrel now has 2 new wheels on the back, and the refurbed on the front, and my previous 4 wheels went to Scotland, were refurbed in anthracite, and are now on an octy mk1

Good old MS paint! I neither have the ability of compulsion to do anything above that. Maybe next time I will use the "spraycan" option on the plate :o

This car is the singular (almost) reason i want a Vrs in the first place- and dont start nit picking cause i now its not areal vrs but just the potential of what can be achived and the fact that it can still be used everyday and give great mpg even with double the bhp it came from the factory with

Fantastic work dude:thumbup:

My favourite car on Brisky! Simple as that!...

Long live the Mongrel... :D

I never got around to doing the engine bay - Will probably save that to do at Castle Combe. :o

looking good, glad to see someone else using Zymol - well atleast i think thats in from the reflection in photo 2 :D

That's looking very good Jason.

Not just the shiny paintwork , but the modified bodywork and (lack of) stickers really look the part.

That's the tidiest I've seen the Mongrel look. :)

Still got 2 Briskoda ones, a skodahome one, 2 Northloop ones, a vagowners ones, and a "diesel inside" one. All relatively subtle though. :)

Jase, Did you paint your air vents (dash) or are they the stick on type?

Been thinking of doing a little silver detail on them for a while but not found any good pics to show them painted, always seem to be the stick on ones.

Your cars looking awesome mate.. like many other people on here, yours was one of the main reasons for me sticking with Fabia's when my elegance was being a pain. :)

They are painted..... badly!

One day this summer I will probably remove them and re-do it.

You might also notice that the nearside wingmirror has had the black bit painted silver, and the offside one is on the "to do" list. Got lots of silver paint here anyway.

Um... someone said it's not a "real vRS"? Is it a normal 1.9 with loads of mods then? I hear a lot on here about this Mongrel but too new to know what you've actually done to it?

Oh yea great cleaning job by the way, and nice nice wheels!

It's a 1.9 TDI that's been converted to a vRS using all the spare parts from one - engine, box, ecu, wiring, dash, keys - and then modded to buggery. Makes me :) to think this car was 100hp once.

Ah right... so.... go on then :)

list a few of the mods, I want some inspiration.

I did me first mod today, and it happened to be a pointless one, I fitted the Seat strut brace.

Conversion aside - VT5 turbo from Allard, along with FMIC & EGR bypass, Snow Performance stage 2water methanol injection, Wizards of Nos nitrous injection, ported head & inlet manifold, race injector units, straight out side exit exhaust, BMC CDA airbox, and some good mapping.

Then there's handling/safety things - Peloquin differential, Spec stage 3+ clutch and 9lb flywheel, Brembo brakes, KW V1 coilovers, decent tyres, uprated bushes, Jabba rear ARB, Ibiza strut brace, and more that doesn't spring to mind right now.

Weight saving mods: Carbon fibre bonnet, Aircon gutted out entirely, Battery put in boot, never have back seats in, flywheel mentioned above saves about 10 to 12 kg. Things like brembos and FMIC probably have countered some of that saving.

That takes a special kind of lunatic! And for that, I salute you

And it's looking very nice by the way :)

Oh my... well done, I wasn't expecting THAT much modding at all! Plenty of inspiration there.

Glad to see you also have the strut brace, makes me feel a bit better about adding mine :)

So, do you have some figures (power, point-point speeds etc) to inspire even more?

Haven't done much timed stuff. Never went to Santa Pod during 2008 to race. On a racelogic GPS device I did get some times (with a passenger operating the device) worked out 30 to 50 of 1.9 seconds in 2nd gear, and 50 to 70 of 2.3 with a shift to 3rd. 0 to 100 was worked out combining an aborted run, and a run started off whilst cruising which came out to just over 14 seconds. Never managed more at the pod than a 15 flat @ 96mph.

looking good mate. I gave mine its first Summer clean at the weekend and was so depresed with the amount of stone chips. My grill and my fogs eed repainting and the bonnet is even worse. I realy hate gritters on the motorway :(
