Fabia vrs tyre pressure

Featured Replies

im about to go pump my vrs' tyres up - but i cant find anywhere in book that says whar pressure - help!!!! - qhat is it?

look on the tyres. (or atleast thats what i do on my pushbike...)

It might on the inside of the fuel filler flap??????

I had to ask this a while ago as I didn't know how to convert the kilopascal (KPa) value on the inside of the fuel filler into good old PSI.

Rear 32

Front 33.5 - 34

Which reminds me I must check mine at the weekend.

It is inside the filler flap, but usually thet are in Kpa's so you need to doa bit of converting.

I run mine at 34 PSi front 32 PSi rear and they wear just fine.

Damn it Neil beat me to it, close enough though ;)

cheers guys!

i tried the "tyre" section!!!! hmph!

Mine has the measurement in BAR which some car pumps have as an alternative scale.

2.3 front and 2.1 or 2.2 rear , according to load.

I have the standard vRS tyres, 205/45/R16 and they say 51psi on the tyres, thats very high. Didn't think it was right but if they are any less than that they look flat!!

Way too high! Skoda says 34psi (front) 32psi (rear) but for a slightly softer ride try 32/30.

No seriously, the don't only look to flat they are too flat when any less than (approx) 51 psi. I'm confused. Had the tread looked at after 15k and they're wearing fine!?!?!?!?!?!

I know what you mean about looking 'flat' but remember that PDI engine is a heavy old lump. If you're reading that 51psi figure off the tyre, it's proabaly the maximum safe working pressure for the tyre!! Your car must ride like it's on solid wheels and handle very skittishly at those pressures! Trust me, at 32 psi your tyres will not be 'flat' and will wear nice and even (provided your tracking's AOK).

A statement of 'maximum load' and 'maximum pressure' is required to be marked on tyres by the U.S. Federal Government. The pressure quoted has nothing to do with normal use on a car and should be ignored accordingly. My car's SP Sport 2000 tyres also have 51psi marked on them. However the correct tyre pressures for the Octavia 4X4 Estate when fully loaded are 33psi front and 41psi rear.

pumped mine - 34 - 32 - and yes they do look flat, and then again - they look like low profile tyres too.

Radials always do look flat, in my experience.

I know this is going to send everyone to sleep, but 1 bar = 100 kPa (ish) = 14 psi (ish). Mind you, my mental arithmetic ain't great, so I think I may write the psi values down on the filler cap label!

As a rule of thumb, 35 psi front and 30 psi back is never too far off for a small car. Obviously, the correct levels should always be used wherever possible, but in an emergency, 35/30 should be good enough to get you home...!

thanks guys, ill let them down a bit tonight after work on the way home. I'm taking the furby to Austria skiing in January. Snow chains are needed.

Also when driving in ice and snow, do you need to let a little bit more air out of the tyres? Something i heard on the grape vine?

Alex

I let them down to 34 front 32 rear and they are a lot better, not so much torque steer on take off anymore!!

Nice! Much smoother...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

the 172 was 33/30 but on gsd3's i ran 36/33 as they just felt too wobbly

With TDi 1.4 I've found handling and economy great at 37psi front 35 rear. No obvious wear and no difference in comfort.

As its getting colder does anybody here increase the psi of there tyres?

In the vRS manual it states to increase the pressure by 2 psi in winter.

So I've increased the front to 35.5 (2.3bar) and the rear to 33.5 (2.1bar) do people think this a good idea?

Thanks for your advice,

Dom

I run the vRS wheels/tyres at 33/33 on mine. But only because I guessed the pressure as it's not behind my fuel cap. Plus I figured the engine isn't as heavy on mine as on an actual vRS :)

in my fuel cap im sure it says 2.3 all around

2.3 front. either 2.2 or 2.1 rear depending on load.

Excellent. I think I'll stick with 2.3 and 2.1 then. Empty boots are great for getting the back end twitching round corners! ;)
