felicia ecu and imobiliser problem

Featured Replies

Firstly hello this is my 1st post here after reading the many pages on this great site.

Ok I have a 1.3 felicia w plate.Completely lost power and would not start. Was told the ecu was "had it". So ive managed to get a 2nd hand ecu and matching key but forgot to take the immobiliserfrom this car too!

In my hast I removed the transponder pick up ring from around the ignition barrel and wired the 2nd hand one in ( i now know this wasnt needed). I took out the transponder from old and put in in the original key.It should be said that i havnt taken out the original transponder and just put the new one inside the plastic key case itself. The car will now only turn over for 1 second.

Having read this forum i believe this is an imobiliser problem, so without getting this coded is there any physical way of bypassing this to get the car to start??

Any help would be greatly appreciated as to take it to a dealer or electrical guy would mean on the back of a low loader and more ££££ which is not ideal.

Hope this all makes sense.

Just to add, is the transponder ring around the barrel matched to the ecu and immobiliser or is it a universal part??

When you say wouldnt start, like just crank over but wouldn't start

My Favorit did that, turned out to be the fuel pump

Transponder ring is universal, it plugs into a small black box. This is the immobiliser ECU. IIRC, the engine ecu doesnt have to be matched to the immo ecu, just the key to the immo ecu, Ive swopped a steering column, with lock and key, swopped the immo ecu and the car started

When replacing the ECU with a used one you need to connect to it with diagnostic equipment, go into engine 01, adaptation 10 and channel 00 to erase the learned values. It should then start on the original key and immobiliser. Have a look at the VAG Com owners map, there may be a member who is willing to help.

Taking this slightly off topic..... the felicia I've just bought (98 S) has had a lock changed and some point which means I have 4 keys which don't work in all the locks.

I'm looking at getting a complete lock kit from Jorly which comes with two keys. Can I use the process fordfan mentioned to program the new keys ?

I believe from reading previous threads it is possible to remove the chips from the keys and swap them over (although I have no experience of this).

If the lock is the driver's door lock then I believe you could swap the passenger lock with the drivers one if your car uses the double sided locks.

In replacing all the locks the most difficult bit will be dropping the steering column and drilling out the bolt securing the ignition lock to the steering lock shroud (the lock kit should come with a new bolt which you just tighten and when it reaches a certain tightness the head snaps off).

Ok, It seems that only the passenger door lock is different. So....... could I get just that lock matched to the rest of the car ? ie order a lock and build it up to match the rest of the locks ?

hi ive had the same problem got a second hand ECU and it turns over for 1 sec then cuts out. Didnt realise it had to do with the immobilser but im unable to get the key or even details of the vehicle it came from, is there anyway of bypassing it? as it seems the fuel is being restricted somewhere, the lift pump pressurises the system and feeds the injectors but there is no follow up? where does this come from is there another fuel pump that is not functioning due to the immob or does the ECU shut off the injectors? Must be some way to bypass!?!?

Cheers

thanks to this guy for the post, slightly incorrect but helped me sort my car, instead of going into engine 01 go into immobiliser then apation 10 and channel 00 and it resets the immob and starts the car with original key no matter what ECU! fault codes were unrecognised ecu and that was causing all the probs, simple fix basically!
