Driver Power 2009 - Relegated to Third!

Featured Replies

The Auto Express Driver Power results for 2009 are out ... and our beloved Octy has dropped from first place to third!

However no great shame involved. First place goes to the Jaguar XF (I wish!) and second place to some obscure large saloon from a Czech manufacturer!

Glad to see we are still basically exonerated in choosing what we have.

That XF is something else. Comfortable, stable on a slalom course (at Jaguar's request) and I chickened out at140mph in an XFR on the Gaydon test track.

A worthy winner.

It should be better, given the price difference!

Ah, but does it have curry hooks! :D

TATA.

Once the new TSi units filter through into the survey, we will regain our rightful position.

Properly going to go all pear shaped wrong after 3 years if anything like past jag's..... a long long history of badly built metal anything with the cat logo. I do find it hard to believe any Jaguar can beat a same priced German exec... Did they bribe or match fix the results?

I am not trying to knock British cars but after owning them in the past things would have to get a lot lot better or time (lots) to dim my views of a Brit built car, it just not something we are good at the anymore same way the French can't make a cart.

Most defo they will have being made by ta ta:):)

Superb always was the better car :P and the curry hooks/shopping hooks are patented by Skoda and I think mercedes pay for the privelge of using them

A bit mystified by these results. I can understand the Jag coming first because of its excelent design, although I classify Jag and Land Rover in the same bottom rung for reliability (sadly).

Coming from a VW Passat to my first Octy 4 years ago was a revelation. The Passat was a roomy economical workhorse but no more. It was dull to drive and felt outdated. That i suppose is why VW felt the need to completely revamp (and vastly improve) it.

Coming from the same mould the old Superb scored in road tests only in interior space and improved build quality. I would understand if the new Superb had trounced the Octavia but these results dont seem right!!

The XF hasn't been around long so how can long term reliability be judged?

The Octavia may have got relegated to 3rd -but Skoda win the overall manufacturer category.

Jagwaaaar were 4th.

The Jag XF only appeared last year so I guess owners (few) are still in their rose tinted 'honeymoon' period.

Another Skoda plus is that the Mk2 Fabia won the Supermini/ City car group - the one that Honda's Jazz had dominated.

The one thing that I find astonishing is that the ancient & defunct Rover 75 came 7th - guess their owners are all stuck with a car that is unsalable so know no difference.

It is Auto Express remember. So don't read into it too much and apply a little salt :)

JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey is still the benchmark IMO.

True - like a few car mags. Group test of waxes will include polishes.....either it is a wax or a polish. Autocar on a car test were not keen on the way the DSG box behaved when you left it in drive, applied the handbrake then removed your foot from the brake.

Oh no, not the dreaded DSG thread again....

Got a Passat at the moment and it's got an electric handbrake, like the Jag has. It's a weird feeling.

I'm with Octygone here ............ and on something of a mission this morning (I've emailed the results to 'several' of my 'friends' and 'family')

Skoda certainly appears to be VAG's star performer, most of the 'others' have pretty abysmal results.

I mean to say, Polo 98th, Passat (old) 94th, Passat (current) 70th, Audi TT (old) 69th,

Audi A4 Mk2 66th, Seat Leon (new) 65th, Audi A4 Mk3 58th, Audi A6 52nd, Audi A3 44th.

Not a pretty picture!
