occasional erratic idle/ power loss

Featured Replies

Firstly i would like to say Hi to all and everyone and

sorry that my first post is a fault finding one. (kinda rude i know)

Ive owned my 53 plate mk1 vrs octavia estate for about 3 years but its been in the family since new . its the 1800 turbo 20v version with i think the avg engine currantly re-mapped with a K&N induction kit and aftermarket dump valve supported by some nice 18" alloys (225 BHP) all the listed mods were done by my brother in-law when he bought the car (from new) the car has just reached 40k and has developed a weird erratic fault.

The car runs perfect 90% of the time but every now and again you could be driving along (normal revs) and the engine feels like it stalls whilst in motion total loss of power and feels as thow your out of of fuel no lights come up on the dash and the engine seems to go to idle then recover and drive fine again. My wife drives the car every day and is complaining that the fault is happing more often i kinda need to establish and fix the fault myself as i cant afford the garage fees at the moment .

Any ideas guys / girls

Hiya.

Even an intermittent fault will probably throw a fault code, and that should be retained until explicitly cleared, so I'd check the VAGCom section for a member near me who can read codes, then repost with additional details in the Octy 1 section.

i think ive discovered the fault.

it only seems to happen when the car is low on fuel between eighth and empty on the gauge so i think my tank maybe contamanated is there a drain plug in the tank so i can get the dodgy fuel /water

out ?
