Disabling EGR

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I think on VAG-COM it is possible to disable EGR, even on my VRS TDI, DPF equipped octy. Is this correct?

Once disabled, I bet I can disconnect the EGR pipe, avoiding warm soot to reenter turbo, engine, etc without getting CEL lights.

But if I don't disable EGR with VAG-COM, and let it vent to atmo would I get CEL or limp mode after disconnecting the EGR pipe (of course I would avoid outside air entering the EGR input "plug")?

TIA

You can turn it down but not completely off

I know that Basil on his Fabia vents to atmo and has no problems. I wonder if with TDI and DPF the ECU has different (more) monitoring procedures... I'd like to avoid to go in limp mode.

why do it in the first place? are you having problems with it sooting up or would you prefer to know your getting 100% fresh intake air rather than some warm recirc combustion gasses too to slow you down?

Second answer.

And I'm really disturbed by the fact that soot generated by derv itself make my oil and turbo dirty. I was a bit astonished and stared at the colour of my oil when freshly changed: deep black and have seen too many photos and read too many reports of turbo with sticky vanes and so on...

if the oil is black its doing its job !!!
