312mm Pad Fitment Query

Featured Replies

I've noticed that the pads don't seem to sit flush against the brake discs. When you look through the wheel at the pads the edge closest to the centre of the disc isn't sat flush against the disc like I'd expect. I can fit a fingernail between the pad and disc at this point. It looks like the gap closes up as the pad goes further into the caliper and towards the edge of the disc. Is this normal? I've not checked the inside pad to see if it's doing the same, but the brakes seem to be working fine. I'm assuming this gap closes up when the pedal is depressed (but I've not used a helper yet to check this) but wondered if this happens to anyone else with the 312's? I'm concerned that its wearing the pad unevenly by skimming the edge furthest into the caliper whilst leaving the edge that's standing proud of the disc unworn when brakes aren't in use.

Pretty sure mine are exactly the same mate, my usual garage fitted them so I'm guessing this is correct.

My 312's are the same, I remember other cars that I have owned had the same character. When I have changed pads on some cars the pads were noticibly tapered. Maybe this is due some slight mis-alignment of the caliper/carrier/pistons but if they work well enough it wont bother me.
