Removing wheel mung

Featured Replies

I got some mung on my wheels

It's baked on brake dust,

Any tips, I've tried Megs NXT and autoglym SRP and Megs scratch X, which has improved it but it's still there

Try using a clay bar if you have one - I had great success with similar markings on my wheels a couple of weeks ago :)

It's fiddly and hurts your arm but you get there eventually :D

It was one of the better ones but still no great.

wd40!

Does it work ???

That thought kept going through my mind last night, but I couldn't find the can I have, I did use a touch of servisol super40 which is just about the same, but that didn't do much either:)

WD40 won't work straight away - give it 2 or 3 minutes to work it's magic before even trying to wipe off.. But could solve the problem actually :)

wonder wheels ...... it's pretty corrosive though, don't get any on your hands and then take a leak after ........it burns ... I know

mung?? :D

WD40 did a fair job of removing the muck that had built up on my wheels, didn't get it all off but then I hadn't really tried to remove all of it for about 5 years.

Obviously be very careful in the application or it may make stopping interesting later.

There was another thread that mentioned using WD40 on the wheels which is why I tried it, I think it was another great idea from the pikey meister Basil.

Isn't servisol silicone based by the way?

You may also want to try agitating the mung and wd40 with a toothbrush before cleaning away.

If that doesn't work try topically applying an acidic wheel cleaner with a toothbrush and removing as soon as possible.

Once you HAVE removed all of the 'mung' remember that you will have stripped all of your protection off the wheels - I would advise then polishing and 'sealing' a couple of times which will protect the wheel and reduce 'mung' build up in the future. But I'm sure you know that! :D

I knew I had heard it somewhere, your right it was basil, as for the servisol ....I have no idea I found it in my shed and it said 40 on it and I used it for something years ago :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I've got some stuff called Type 13, it will clean pretty much anything off anything else, might take the laquer off the wheel though, and knacker the tyres and probably eat the wheels as well.

It's also great to use in an enclosed space :drunk:

Is the 'Royal Mung' type of stuff?

If so, you may need to call for the Spanish Inquisition.

( It won't be expecting it, and will most certainly expire of fear and trepidation )

I'm not sure too be honest.......Mung is mung imo, I don't know about how royal it is:O

I guess it could be a minor royal, you know the queens gay son........'ol wots his name, the failed commando.

White spirit

Mr Muscle foaming oven cleaner, agitated with a toothbrush (remember not to use it to brush your teeth again afterwards) :D

Try Bilberry wheel cleaner & use it pretty neat. It is awesome stuff & It smells nice:thumbup:

If that doesn't shift it all, then try some autoglym tar remover.

How did you get on? Did you manage to remove the mung in the end? :)

Your going to have your work cut out getting that off it it's as ground in as it looks, also the inside of the wheel seems to show similar signs of dirt and debris..............:(

I would suggest the help of some AS Tardis on that as I am confident a good percentage of that will be tar..........:o

Well I did one wheel yesterday, I took me ages too do that lol. The only thing that really worked was the mr muscle oven cleaner, It does look a bit better but not much

You're right the inside is knackered, I need a re-furb really but I can't justify the cash at the moment:O

Well the mung is gone, just about anyway.

There a tiny sprinkle left but I can live with that.

I used some wheel acid of my mate, I'm not sure exactly what it is but it was burning the brick work outside his garage:eek::eek::eek:

So it made easy work of the mung.

I then sealed them with AG wheel seal and some old car plan wheels sealI had left in the shed, if i'm honest the car plan stuff seems better than the AG stuff.

Thanks all !!!!
