Grinding on full lock

Featured Replies

Hi

Got a weird grinding/vibration noise on my Fabia, it only occurs on full look and on an uneven surface.

It started when the car had lowering springs fitted and ive since checked the obvious things like the tyre catching in the arch and the anti-roll bars hitting the driveshafts.

It sounds like, as far as i can tell its comming from somewhere nearish the gearbox, any ideas what might be causing this?

haha one thing i hadnt thought of, will check it tomorrow

It might be the drop link hitting the arch liner. I was pulling out of a space at work today and had to wind full lock on to do a 180 degree change of direction which involved going over a speed bump whilst on full lock and it made a nasty grindy noise. Thought it was probably the tyre catching the arch but on closer inspection on the drive at home the droplink is sat very close to the liner whilst on full lock so I think it's probably that.

I mentioned this to my dealer about a year ago when I had my first service done. It's not really fixable is it?

Thanks it turns out it is the anti-roll bar and the track rod rubbing together i can see where they have made contact, is there anything that can be done to stop this happening? I have some pictures i can post up if required

The Eibach lowering spring kit comes with alloy spacers which are supposed to be fitted to the steering rack to lessen the amount of lock you can put on , as far as i am aware no other manufacturer supplies these spacers , plus i don't think anybody can be bothered fitting them anyway , too much trouble

Does it come from the passenger side on turning RIGHT full lock by any chance?

I have lowered my car on coils and I get a grinding from the passenger side when turning on a RIGHT full lock.

On closer inspection the droplinks on that side is indeed catching on the arch liner, but havnt seen anything else?

glad its not just me.

heres where mine has been rubbing

is that on the passenger side?

dont think mines doing that

yes its also on the drivers side but a little less noticeable, happens on full lock both ways

i must admit , even though mine is lowered by the -25mm Eibach springs , i have never noticed any noise on lock

If anything bashes on full lock, that's a potential MOT failure ....
