New 1.6 Tdi engine - when will it be out?

Featured Replies

I know this was asked a few months ago and from reading all the replies it didn't give any indication as to when it would be available, but as we're now almost 6 months on does anyone have any more up to date info on this (specifically in the Fabia)?

Cheers

Dan

:)

Skoda have said that the facelift Fabia (due around May next year) will include 'mechanical changes' including new engines. I would imagine one of those new engines will be this 1.6 TDI-CR in various states of tune to replace the 1.9 and probably the 80 BHP 1.4 TDI.

The Octavia is getting this new engine within the next few months.

Cheers for the reply.

I emailed VW to see when the 1.6Tdi would be out in the Golf and its "going into production from 1st June and the first cars will be available over here August-September", to give me an idea of how long it will be before it permeates down to Skoda.

Why its taking so long for Skoda to get their act together on this I don't know, if they can put it in the Octavia then why so long for the Fabia?

Skoda couldn't give me an indication when I emailed.

It would've been nice to test-drive and got an order in for one before VAT increases back up to 17.5% on 1st December.

Oh well at least I can hopefully test drive the Golf with the new engine to see if its worth waiting for :-)

It's all going to be down to when VAG let them do it. Why use their nice new engines in the budget brand when they can get more margin from selling them in the premium brand? As volumes ramp they'll propagate down to the more budget brands.

Skoda Octavia will be equiped with the new 1.6 TDI to replace the 1.9 TDI starting from first of July. I do not know how long it takes for the cars to reach UK.

According to a post on a Czech forum:

Fabia & Fabia Combi

1,2 CR – 55kW – 111g

1,6CR – 66kW – 119g

1,6CR – 77 kW – 119g

All from March 2010.

Whats 77W in BHP?

135?

Mike

74kw = 100bhp... so erm it's a little bit more

Whats 77W in BHP?

135?

Mike

77kw is about 105 PS or about 104 bhp (they are the figure for the current 1.9 PD Tdi )

To turn kw into bhp multiply kw by c 1.36
