Wiper crazyness...

Featured Replies

OK, Yesterday I tried using my rear washer for the first time in god knows how long. After this the wiper kept on going... and going.. and then when it did stop they stopped at random places on the screen.

Today it seemed to park correctly, then do a few wipes, park at random, do a few wipes, park correctly... this was all with the rear wiper switched off!

Then on my way back for lunch the fronts decided to come on by themselves and just wiped continually. I got it to stop doing this by flicking the stalk to rear wash and back a few times, the rear however is just wiping away continually (but now seems to park correctly when it does briefly pause)

Any ideas? My first thought was that the switch was gummed up, the catalyst being me using a function I havent used in about 6 months? If this is the case is there anything I can simply spray into the switch mechanism without goosing it?

Any help appreciated :)

I had this problem after a long blast on the rear screen wash. The rear wiper just stopped/started from then on. It seemed to sort itself after a couple of weeks of not using, but started up again without even using it.

I can't help with the fronts, but it might be the positioning switch inside the rear motor? I took the boot lining off, took off the motor plate and cleaned the works with carb cleaner, and WD40, then oiled the parts and it all seems to be working fine now.

HTH

Sounds like a leak in the rear wiper motor. I had this problem and it made the front wipers go haywire.

Take the boot trim off and take the cover off the motor (make sure you have a bowl underneath as my carpet got soaked when I did this!). You'll soon see if that is the problem.

You can clean them up apparently, but mine was in such a state I replaced it with a new one.

Spot on and thanks for the tip on the bowl. About half a litre of brown water and sludge came out :o

With the help of a mate of mine we took the motor out, dried it, cleaned it, fitted it back and it was exactly the same :P

Disconnecting the rear wiper sorts the fronts though and that was the main issue so I'm happy. Infact whilst the wiper was off both we both said how good it looked so I may be looking for an appropriate size bung rather than a replacement motor :D

Hehe I agree especially if it's the sedan version, definately much better without rear wiper

My ideas would be to look at the wiper switch itself,by the steering wheel. Other than that,I had wipers that would Not switch off a few weeks ago,and it turned out to be a relay switch.

Nice easy fix.....

Hope it helps.......

You've sold me on that one. Plus 50p > whatever a new wiper motor costs :P

Hang on I need to sit down... an idea from Briskoda has actually saved me money rather than making me reach for the credit card  :D

I am planning to do this next week. Looks much better without the wiper  Have already purchased the plastic grommet from Halfrauds :D
