hi all.

does anyone know what the engine mods were done on the felicia by the works teams back in the 1990s.

im currently rebuilding an ex works car for rallying in the scottish championship,the good engine was removed so im starting with a bog standard 1.3 engine,luckyly all the other works fitted stuff is still there,so just really need to mod up the engine.

so any help would be greatly appreciated.will post some photos soon of the rebuild.cheers ian

Are you aiming at a GpA restoration, a GpA competion car, or a clubbie car that happens to start with GpA base? What I'd do would depend on exactly what your plans for the car are.

thanks for the response so far,im new to rallying so bought the felicia as a way in.what i aim to do is to enter the scottish rally championship,starting next feb with the snowman rally,in the 1300 class,there are very few cars in that class so have a chance.

maybe im asking for the wrong thing,i just wanted help and advice of what can and cant be done to give me a competitve edge.the car came with a set of cams to be fitted so theres the start?

dont want to spend a fortune if its not going to give me the benefit.

Start by checking the SRC regulations properly then, rather than assuming you need to produce a GpA spec car. If you do, you might have problems, because things like the Peugeot 106 and Citroen AX and Saxo Rallye were GpA, and the 5_000 spec cars of each for homologation were making over 100bhp from 1297cc (reduced from the TU14's usual 1360cc to get into the up to 1300 class) before competition tuning.

Also, I've a vague notion that the Felly's homologation might be about to run out if it hasn't already.

I'm not trying to talk you out of going rallying; just saying that if you want to be competitive do some research into exactly what you're running against first.

thanks for that ken,thats exactley why i joined the forum so i dont go and make a t*t of myself.im waiting to hear from the highland car club as to whats allowed etc.i think ive probably been asking the wrong question tho.i really just want to go rallying cheaply with something that will give me a reasonable chance of winning something in its class.looking at the highland car club specs there are very few class 1 cars (fwd under 1400) in the scottish rally champion ship.

The Felicia's international homologation runs out at the end of 2010, but you can usually run cars in National competitions in their originally homologated groups and classes even after international homologation has expired.

However, I wouldn't worry too much about that. The Felicia is not a competitive car in either Group N or Group A any more (the MG ZRs, Polos and 106's, Pumas etc eat it for breakfast)

I'm pretty sure you can run any MSA compliant rally car in the SRC (e.g. in the "B" classes), so engine modification is pretty free, in which case you need to look at what the top 1400cc FWD class competitors are doing - the top 16v novas and corsas and the like can easily put out close to 200bhp these days, and you will simply never get a 1300 felicia to put out that sort of power, no matter what modifications you do to it.

So my suggestion would be to run the car with the standard engine for a bit, then look at what is feasible. A worked head, cam, webers or throttle bodies and so on will easily give you 100-110 bhp from the 1300cc engine. I have a 1400 8v fabia engine in my rally felicia, which has all those modifications (on motorbike throttle bodies, with a mapped ECU) and it makes 116bhp - enough to be competitive in the class on english club rallies, but not class-winning (certainly not in my hands).

If you want to see what the factory did to the Group A cars, you need a set of homologation papers - still available from the MSA or FIA.
