Finally got my VRS, but.... (under surface paint defect)

Featured Replies

Finally picked up the car Friday lunchtime, did all the paper work and everything went smoothly until lloyds bank declined the money, anyway, that was soon sorted out and when we checked over the car I found the following problems.

1). A horizontal scratch parralel to the rear wiper on the bootlid, a guy came out and said it was polish and "cleaned" it off, I couldnt see it anymore but i'm convinced he used something to fill in the scratch so we'll have to see if it resurfaces

2). Rear Right door, strange paint blemish under the surface, looks like when one of the deep coats were being done that the nozzle on the lighter silver part of the metalic colour got jammed or block and the darker one carried on, so it looks like a couple of greasy finger prints but its clearly under the surface and only visible from a certain angle, its almost like a birth mark, its very strange and I was ready to reject the car but i really wasnt in a position to due to needing a car etc.

On point 2 I tried to negotiate the price but he was having none of it and really didnt know what to say, best he could offer me was a half price 10k service (which i reckon is worth about

They should sort it out!

I had a scratch on the o/s rear qtr panel.. and it had to be booked into the bodyshop to be fixed

If they cant autho it get them to contact Skoda and get someone down to look at it.

Then make sure the car goes to an approved bodyshop and all should be ok.

I'm sure this guy was talking < polite phrase > about rejecting the car because of registered in your name. ( someone here will verify )

Agree with Ross, I would push for a free 1st service, on the grounds of being without the car while it is sorted, and why didnt the PDI pick it up ? ( someone not doing their job properly, all the polish wasnt removed as well ). :D

oh dont get me started on the rest of the polish, i have white crap behind all the exterior fixings and the odd dust mark, appalling polishing! I seriously think the scratch on the rear will turn out to be a scratch and not just polish!

In terms of rejecting a car there is some EU legislation that should be able to help you for the first few months, especially considering you pointed out the faults on delivery.

Don't know exactly what the legislation is but it was in Autocar a while back. Contact your local Tranding Standards who will be able to point you in the right direction or the Citizens Advice Bureau.

As for it being registered in your name being a reason not to be able to reject, would you buy a car from a dealer who insistd it was registered in their name? What a load of utter nonsense. :thumbdwn:

I'd be curious to hear how this ends up but in the mean time may i suggest a quick visit to the reviews section to comment on the dealer concerned? :P

Good luck with getting a solution that is to your satisfaction rather than theirs.

I've had two paint faults on the silver Vrs, both of which were a pain to get fixed. The dealer was great on both occasions but skoda required an inspector to check the car before OKing the work. The fault on the nearside rear quarter panel was fixed first time. but the nearside rear door fault which appeared to be temerature related required 3 attempts to fix it!!
