6 speed gearbox

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever fitted a 6 speed box from a TT or LCR to a MK1 Octy VRS

i've seen a 6 speed box from a 225 BAM Leon and wondering if it will fit???

Anyone in the know???

Yes. :) But it's not a simple swap. Worth having a bit of a search as I'm sure this is covered within the octy 1 forum. Simple thing is you need box, clutch, starter motor, driveshafts + more (gearbox cables probably)

Are the gear ratios different or same as 5 speed + 6th gear?

the 5th n 6thn is the same lol

needs new cylinder or somethin lol.

its a pain for no gain jus more changes

not at all, the 6 speed is far far stronger than the 5 speed so if your going big turbo or everything but and drive it hard you can destroy the 5 speed box like me and a few others have.

but yeah loads of bits need changing, basically everything that touches the box is different and has to be changed.

For longer gear ratios you need the diesel 6 speed box, which others have used to achieve good results on highly tuned octys.

02m iirc int it and the tt one is 02j???????

wouldn't that depend on whether the TT is a quattro or FWD?

02M is the lager multishaft gearbox.

02J and 02R are the 5 speed gearboxes.

The really confusing part is even the 5 speed quattro Audi TTs use an 02M gearbox, its just a 5 speed one with the six gear missing.

The 5 speed Octy1 4x4 uses a converted 02J though,

If you don't mind me asking, how much does he want for it?

Std vrs box is good for a little over 300 bhp, If you are going more power than that then look at the 6 speed. Diesel ones are even stronger but higher ratios can be a pain. I ran a TT one in a 4x4 with 356 bhp & it never gave any problems. It should take more power in the vrs as the wheel spin looses some of the load wheras the 4x4 didnt spin much. With the VRS I would also look at fitting a decent Diff to dry & use some of the Power. Des (Delcac) is a good source of info on tuning the VRS, his is probably the quickest 9one on here & hes broken loads of bits in the development process so knows where the cars weak links are

If it helps, PM me any questions you have, I have done this and it's a real pig.... Well worth it though, especially if your going for big power.

As a matter of interest I run the diesel 02M box, only good for real high powered engines. The petrol 02M box is ideal for standardish 18.t engines.
