AHF engine sometimes wont start, no glowlight

Featured Replies

Today after washing the car (no engine wash) it wouldn't start. It turned over nicely on the starter, but no combustion. I noticed that the glow light did not come on at all. I waited a while and tried agin, no light, no start. Diesel was flowing through the fuel lines from the filter. I had to move the car so I moved it on the starte in 1. gear while someone pushed it, then it suddely started. Now it starts fine with the glow light coming on and going off when the engine is ready to start. Apperently this has happenend once before (I was not the drive). I was told it would start with glow light coming on after five-ten minutes.

I checked all the engine fuses, all ok. No loose connectors in the engine bay.

What will make the glow indicator not to come on and make the engine not start?

Is there a relay for the glow plugs that might be halting?

Yes there is a glow plug control box.

I've had the opposite problem (glow plug light not extinguishing), but only once and when I tried the engine it fired, and hasn't done it since. No fault code was recorded either.

Also, a diesel engine will always fire (given fuel) if you crank it long enough. Ok, it'll be white smokey when it first fires with no preheat, but it will start.

Strange. There is a connection with the glow plug light not coming on and the engine not starting. Diesel is running through the lines, so it can't be the fuel pump. Do the diesel injector controller need electronic triggering to inject diesel, or is it mechanical control? So cranking the engine would inject diesel? 2000 110hp Diesel engine.
